There's STILL a lot of disgusting people in this world. These articles report on the spike of hatred and threats on Obama's life: be they from white supremacist groups or random, unorganized acts of hatred.

And law enforcement has been ramping up their protection detail of the President-elect and investigating random threats throughout the U.S.

Things like this were to be expected.
I'd prefer not to give it any more credibility with honoring it or acknowledging it with a serious discussion.

Because if the aforementioned hate mongers and racists read about their exploits on the BBMB political forum, they will be emboldened to amp up their crimes. We shouldn't talk about this, if we do, they have already won.

Honestly, sunlight is a great disinfectant, so the more these people are drawn out the better. Yes there is the threat that someone might actually try to act on their baser feelings and sadly that means there is the possibility that some innocent person(s) may be hurt or even killed in the process. (Likely no the president-elect, but some other innocent person who would become the target of frustrated rage, because they will be easier to get to and 'in the wrong place at the wrong time'.) Obviously I certainly hope that this is not the case, and I hope that our law enforcement agencies continue to do an excellent job of staying abreast of possible threats. However as I said, the more that the sick, poison-minded people poke their diseased heads out of their holes, the better - otherwise they will be allowed to continue to fester and infect others.

I agree with you. It's important to know that these agents of hatred are out there and not pretend they don't exist. The 2nd article I linked summarizes some incidents that happened right after election day.

* Four North Carolina State University students admitted writing anti-Obama comments in a tunnel designated for free speech expression, including one that said: "Let's shoot that (N-word) in the head."
* Second- and third-grade students on a school bus in Rexburg, Idaho, chanted "assassinate Obama," a district official said.
* University of Alabama professor Marsha L. Houston said a poster of the Obama family was ripped off her office door. A replacement poster was defaced with a death threat and a racial slur. "It seems the election brought the racist rats out of the woodwork," Houston said.
* Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported. The president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas said a rope found hanging from a campus tree was apparently an abandoned swing and not a noose.
* Crosses were burned in yards of Obama supporters in Hardwick, N.J., and Apolacan Township, Pa.
* A black teenager in New York City said he was attacked with a bat on election night by four white men who shouted 'Obama.'
* In the Pittsburgh suburb of Forest Hills, a black man said he found a note with a racial slur on his car windshield, saying "now that you voted for Obama, just watch out for your house."

There are actually a few people who got physically hurt because of this. So no, turning a blind eye is a mistake.

If I can relate it to sports for a moment,...

You know when some idiot runs onto the field in the middle of a game in order to get some attention and get his drunken ass on TV? The cameras never show those people on the broadcast because it would only influence other idiots to do the same when they're at the park.

It's kind of the same thing with these racist losers. All they really want is attention. I'm inclined not to give it to them because it only shows other reclusive losers that that's an avenue to get some negative attention and get everyone to notice you.

Well, they don't show the person running on the field, but it might be a good idea showing them getting arrested so as to discourage others from being so bold.

I guess you COULD argue either way.

thats it, if you don't talk about it, it doesn't happen.

It's not that, it's that you don't reward negative behavior with attention. It's like with a small child who is acting up in order to get attention: positive or negative attention is the same thing. If you reward the bad behavior by giving the child attention, even if it is punishment, you will just get more of the same. Ask Supernanny.

Exactly Peachy, and only showing people being arrested for negative behavior won't be a deterant either because that's still negative attention. There's a lot of screwed up kids in this world where the only attention they get from their parents is when they get arrested, probably the same demographic of screwed up kids who tend to turn to extremist organizations or supremecist groups.

Also, they usually don't arrest you for running on to the field, they usually just toss you out, or at least they do here.
