so yeah my husband lost his job and we're in a frenzy of doubt and disbelief. we found out almost 2 weeks ago, but it suddenly hit me today, for some reason. i've been crying at my desk intermittently. anywhooooo...

has anyone ever used a professional resume writer or a pro career finder? if so, did you think it was worth what you paid? did it help you to find a great job or was it a complete waste?

does anyone have any other ideas on finding a good job? he actually works until Feb and then has a big severance package, but we're totally scared that he won't find anything worth taking. we've actually been looking in other cities just in case.

le sigh.

he's the Station Manager for our city's DHL office. he knows all things shipping, especially international shipping. he has hazmat experience and all that as well.

Has he investigated working for the competition?...Sorry to hear...I consider myself to be pretty lucky to have lived in an economy where a shortage of work has never been of concern...in conjunction with my skill set and education I have mad options...C.V writing is definetly an art unto itself and probably one of the easiest thing to procrastinate about...my father used an employment agent near the end of his career with great success...chin up ace!...:)

Since he was a manager he should start checking your city's municipal website for any openings. Sometimes your experience can be very transferable to another position.

I used a resume writer, years ago, and it WAS worth it. But I'd never do it today, as I'm an excellent writer, there are some many templates on the interweb, and synonym.com is choice. :)

As for your husband's job prospects, start networking today using sites like linkedin.com, Plaxo, facebook, etc. Also, use all the normal sites like careerbuilder, monster/hotjobs, and depending on where you live, craigslist, bajobs.com (SF Bay Area), DICE (if he's got tech experience), and a few others.

When on linkedin and Plaxo look for executive recruiters. They usually have VAST networks to which he can plug in.

How respectable of DHL that they gave a large amount of notice and a severance package. I'm going to find more reasons to use them.

Good luck and I'm sure it will all work out. Try not to stress about it, too much. Tings dey happen for ze reason.
