So this album is definitely different from his other stuff, and actually pretty good... but I have to ask, why the auto-tune on every song?

because kanye sings like shit

he likes it.
i like it for the most part, a song or two i hated and kinda pinned it on the auto tune sounding... out of tune? too squeaky on one track. but overall i like most of the tracks. Amazing is my favorite... dunno why.

Wow, the art cover is very minimalistic. :)
Though, I'm suprised this new release seems to be under the radar.

Is that what that common sound is throughout? Autotune? It gets highly annoying after awhile. At first I'z like yeah dogg, then I'z like switch it up already...

The cover reminds me of the Foo Fighters "One By One" album.
That being said, Kanye eats dick.

Thank goodness for MySpace.
Yeah, doesn't feel like KanYe's pushing it; different sure but...I don't know, just seems not there or something.
Though, really oddly, out of the rest of the album, Pinocchio's Story (Freestyle live from Singapore) really stands as one of West's best outro songs ever.

Auto-tune is played out, this disc will make it's way to the used bin by the end of the semester
thank god for the underground

I was wrong. It's actually not that bad.

I am not sure how I feel about it yet. The melodies are beautiful but thematically its so one-dimensional. And I am one of those that hate the vocoder, I find it incredibly irritating that its on every song.
I think Pinocchio's Story is actually pretty self-indulgent. I mean, is he conscious of the fact that he sounds like a complete douche name dropping designers in such a poor-me context?

This auto tune phase has to stop, but I'm pretty sure it's just the beginning. I remember T-Pain saying just under a year back that he and Kanye were going to try and start a whole new genre with that shit. Snoop got on board. Now Lil Wayne is releasing The Carter III: Autotune Version. Hip-hop is DEAD.

Since when hasn't Kanye been self-indulgent?

my spidey sense tells me Kanye is jumping his shark with this one. Haven't listened to the whole album but I have a feeling his balloon has burst. I'm gonna tune into Kanyeuniversity though and watch his descent cause it will be fun to watch him flake out and become the Jerry Lee Lewis of rap.

i finally got around to getting it. ive never seen so many bad rapidshare links in my life.
ill be honest, i like it. its not hiphop, but its ok. the autotune isnt even that bad to me. be good for sleeping or something.
Paranoid is probably the most redeeming aspect of the entire album. It's sometimes a little too minimalist but the record is about heartbreak so I can't ask too much. Although sometimes the auto tuning sounds as though it's done just because it can be.

When I first popped this album in I really wasn't feeling it...it's grown on me since, but doesn't stack up to Ye's previous shit. That being said, Heartless, Amazing, RoboCop, and Coldest Winter are pretty ill. Jeezy rips it on Amazing, and I'm glad we get a little rhyming on the album. Overall, not as bad as I thought. I just hope we get another College Dropout or Graduation next November.

I'll have to admit, ever since Graduation, Kayne has been going down hill musically though at least it's more of a slow stride then a steep slide.

Great interview but was this intentional?
"No – Northern Island, which is part of Britain…
(laughs) Oh yeah, I knew that! Well I failed geography I’m proud to say. And who knew that I would actually need that skill? If I’d have thought I’d be travelling this much I might have studied! It could help me more in airports and shit. I can’t even find my gate (laughs). Erm… There has to be something more than drinking tea!"
Northern Island??

^ ^ great interview. i like that he seems to be about the craft, while arguably not being so elitist to put himself above pop

sweet zombie jesus.
i bought the album, a firm believer that if kanye wants to make a 'personal' album, or whatevs, than that's fine.
BUT.
after 3 very determined attempts to listen to it through, i gotta say. this album is bullshit.
and i love kanye records. that's a fact. dude could do no wrong in my mind.
until now.
this shit drags on.
i tried to shrug it off until the 4th track on the 3rd try, then i said enough!
fuck man, 30 to 90 secs less on songs that drone on(almost all of them). please.
dude.
ah.
so disappointed. and auto-tune is a good art idea, but still. overkill, man.
fuck. i'm so disillusioned with the world.

I would like to see a slow stride. I'm thinking it would require a lot of balance.

Nice interview. That can't have been easy. You got some interesting answers. I'm forwarding it to a friend who is a huge fan.
If you don't mind me asking, how long does it take to do an interview that long? I get angry because most US magazines will run maybe 5-10 questions in a Q&A now and they used to be much longer. I never know whether the people who ran 5 questions asked many more and then it was edited or whether they only had a couple of minutes at one of those big media events.

Why thankyou :)
I was with him for about an hour and a half - although 20 minutes were taken up by the photo shoot. I had his full attention for just over an hour.

he didnt fake a track, idk where you are getting at. its clearly hsi voice, thats why it sounds not too fantastic without the auto tuner.

I really didn't mean he did it exactly like Simpson....just another piss poor performance on SNL
and if you listen clearly to the one song he's singing, he misses a couple notes and you can clearly hear the backing track
adam_f
12-16-2008, 12:15 AM
I don't really care if he missed a couple notes because it was 12 o'clock on a Saturday and SNL is kinda funny again so don't be picky.
Nygel
12-16-2008, 01:01 AM
yeah, he had backup of his own voice and on teh chorus.... like most artists. i will definitely give you that he was missin notes like a beast but i've had to cut tracks for a few artists for live and they always want to leave like... the last part of each line and the chorus. also at the end of heartless he did awesome, he was so incredibly into it, i liked the energy.
though noone seemed to want to hug him at the end of the show, he just stood there looking like he didnt want to be there. the natural kanye stance.
