So with the kid on the way and Christmas coming, my girlfriend and I are only focused on preparing for the kid. We haven't even thought of ourselves for Christmas and my brother is bugging me asking what we need.

What are some of the little things needed for baby people overlook beyond the pure necessities?

Thanks in advanced!

Thanks a bunch, it has gone swimmingly simple so far

We lucked out with the summer garage sales....so much nice clothing and accessories for dirt cheap.

But I know we're missing some things

Thanks again for the congrats!

The kid can decide on getting dreads....when he's out of my house!

I'll look into these nappies (y)

You or someone else whom your wife is close to should get her a gift certificate to a day spa or some other girlie pampering 'treat' that she can indulge in a few months after the baby comes, when she will really appreciate a day to feel like a 'woman' (as distinct from 'a new mum'). If the budget will stretch, make is good for two people, so she can go with a girlfriend and just have a nice, indulgent, chick day.

Excellent idea...she definitely deserves it! I try my best, but I'm not a pro :(

a wipey warmer, you'll only use it for a few months at most but the difference in the baby's temperment when changing diapers is worth it. Usually only about $17 too.

formula (if you're going that route), it's mighty expensive and has a great shelf life so stock up now while people are generous.

extra bottles, you can never have enough bottles...

boxes of diapers, they dont go bad so plan ahead with bigger sizes even.

desitin cream, teething tablets, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby toys, little stuff for car rides and stuff.

and for god's sake, get as much sleep now while you can, cause you'll wish you had soon enough.

Got a Snugli on the registry, I hope it has the same european chique as a baby bjorn =)

I heard it's a great way to pick up chicks at the mall ;)

oh yeah those baby slings look really cool but I tried it with my niece's daughter... (http://photos-f.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-snc1/v264/178/35/596573116/n596573116_654125_3624.jpg) (yeah I'm a GREAT aunt ) and I couldn't find it in me to just let go and surrender to the sling, I felt like she was going to drop but then again a newborn in my clumsy hands, the sling was prolly good back up. They seemed to have no probs with it and loved it.

How many registries should someone be one?

We're on two...is that too much or too little?

Any thoughts on humidifiers?

Lots of wash cloths or burp towels. Coffee. Mylicon drops. Hyland's teething tablets. Baby tylenol. Baby-sitting coupons. Target or some other big box retailer gift certificates.

I think you'll find that, as parenting advice goes, this is the sort that may end up with Social Services coming round. Personally I'd say, try the Naughty Step technique first.

Most importantly you guys will need confidence in your abilities, patience and love. But you will find it easy to have those in practice. Baby are soooooo cuteeeeeeeeeee. Have fun!
