Target sells ASSETS which is pretty much the same thing but cheaper, I guess, made by the Spanx lady.

I have a pair, they are nice for dresses when you don't want your lady lumps hanging out and about.

I have a pair I wear under trousers, like business trousers. They kind of smooth everything out a bit, so that everything that's meant to be nicely round is round, and there aren't any bulgey bits. I feel when I wear them that they also help me maintain better posture, something about the way they hold me around at the lower belly/back area.

I would say, don't be vain and try to squeeze into the smallest size you can get away with, or you will feel like a sausage. Take the next size up and feel firmly cosseted instead - it is not unpleasant.

oh if anything Ill probably end up buying a pair that is too large and doesn't hold me in as much as possible.

how is the actual sizing on them?

I want a pair for wearing with dresses/skirts as well. especially since all the hosiery that's out right now already makes me feel like a sausage so I want something that will smooth me out a bit underneath tights etc so I dont have such a splooge out the top of them.

That's the one I got. The leg things can cut a tiny bit into the thighs so you might want to look for a version that doesn't have that, but that's my only complaint. They have a size chart too

I have a pair and definitely do not get a size that makes you feel like a sausage, as ms. p said. It makes me feel more comfortable if I am wearing something that is a bit more snug against my body (read: dresses or a skirt).

I'd recommend em! I haven't tried Assets though.

I've got some shorty things by an aussie brand, they're pretty good (Secret Weapon or some shit) they don't cut into my legs or in up under my boobs or anything, I wear them under a black dress I have that's tight in all the right places. Which just so happens to be where I'm the fattest. ha.

I was inspired by this thread to try on the girdle thing I bought in college to wear under a dress. I actually think it makes me look fatter. I'm sure spanx are better made though, or they wouldn't be so popular.

I would suggest not knocking Spanx if A. you have never tried them or B. you are a male and thus you have no idea what they do.

They don't make anything SMALLER. Really, you can't make anything smaller without looking like a sausage. It just SMOOTHS things out. You know sometimes elastic on underwear digs in a tad? No more. You ate a lot for thanksgiving and your stomach pops a bit, this helps hide it a bit. Etc.

It's nothing extreme, just a little fix to make us ladies more comfortable.

I bought a skin-tight knitted dress today so the subsequent SPANX purchase was unavoidable.

I broke a sweat getting the damn things on, but sweet lord they made me feel 1000x sexier in the dress. Keeps everything in its place and made my posture far better.

the only downside is that my bum sorta lost all its bounce by the ounce it had before. I never thought Id miss that thing flopping around with each step, but ah well.

best 45 bucks Ive ever spent.

i got the ones that go all the way up past my ribcage. I think just the regular undie ones are only about 35 bucks or so. DO IT YOU WONT REGRET IT!

shit ive spent 35 bucks on a pair of lacy racy undies before that im pretty sure Ive only ever friggin worn once. PLUS they are so frilly that they cant even be worn out under clothes...im such a silly girl sometimes.

I have a pair like that too, they look like can can girl underwear with lace and frills on the butt. I love them but they're utterly pointless. They bunch up under my clothes and make it look like I have cellulite. :(

as far as i can tell, no one has mentioned the crotchless ease in which you can pee in the spanx. i love the fact you don't have to undress each trip to the bathroom.
