It may seem as if the economy should be a priority, but recent studies say the Ocean is becoming more acidic that projections predicted. 10 to 20 times faster, here in the NW United States it's showing up with weakened shells on sea life which means visibly smaller populations of shellfish, especially mussels.
Global warming: Too close to home From (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/390057_tatooshed.html) our local newspapers editorial board. They vote for Global warming. But the argument is deep seated and has huge opposition, especially from the Bush administration and not surprisingly the Oil corporations. Either way I see the need to address both issues, perhaps equally if at all possible.
So I made a poll to see which priority wins. I didn't include both, rather I would like to figure out which one you feel should be addressed head on and prioritized.
I am voting Global Warming, mainly because I think if we were to get serious about that issue, money would follow and so would a common sense of direction.

It seems like those who are most concerned about the economy are also the ones with the most money. If people could just put aside a wee little bit of their greed maybe we could extend sustainability.
I don't get it, they want to make massive amounts of money now whilst leaving a trail of destruction. Do they even think of their future generations?
Big profits and consumption for what, 40 years of excess?
So much information, research, proof, alternatives, and life have been lobbied out of existence because of this short-sightedness. Greatness will not follow fuckers who live for temporary greed.
One day China will not be able to sustain it's production....where will it go?

And now with the economy so totally fucked due to these reprehensible acts of unaccountability, they want our money to try and make it right. Fuck the irreversible ecological state of the planet. Send us more free money for unregulated shit products and services. Getting me fired up kaiser soze.

I hear ya and this is the tip of the iceberg. The way these bailouts are being handled, we can see it is temporary, if effective at all. Jobs are not being made, CEO's are not being punished for putting their businesses in jeopardy...they're still living the life unrepentant.
This is not a solution, it is extortion, maybe even blackmail....the way this one is going swimmingly well I expect another "bail out" in a few years.
How's this for bailout money being put to good use

This is a corporate coup de tat and was in the making well before this became big news. Why is the pentagon projecting 20,000 troops on U.S. soil? Quite maybe to protect the elite from the people they are FUCKING OVER.

I'm a firm believer that we need to focus on protecting the planet from being destroyed by elements of the economy. While right now we are in a recession and perhaps a depression is looming, the world's governments need to prioritize and put the environment first. The economy can wait.

I'm pretty sure you can have it BOTH ways. Afterall, so-called "green collar" jobs would handle both economic woes and save the environment. All in a days work, so who has to choose?

Greed is a very heavy aphrodisiac, if they can market bottled water and succeed here in Seattle of all places, we have a long way to go to try and understand the mechanisms that motivate our choices.
A letter from Seattle's Mayor (http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/mayor/newsdetail.asp?ID=8442&dept=40)
“Seattle offers the ‘gold standard’ in water quality,” Nickels said. “What flows from our taps is some of the finest-tasting, purest-source water in the world. That’s why it makes little sense for Seattlites to waste their money on bottled water — which costs 2,400 times as much as tap water and creates thousands of tons of greenhouse gases.”
A gallon of Seattle water from the Tolt or Cedar River Watersheds costs just one-third of one-cent — compared to at least 79 cents for a pint of bottled water. In March, Nickels ordered all City departments to stop purchasing bottled water to reduce waste and climate pollution.

Perhaps, but is religion worse than the economy? The evangelist in the USofA have a dualistic view on Global Warming, they completely back George W. Bush and his horrific record on ignoring the environment, yet they also started up an actual website on reducing CO2 emissions. WTF? They want to dismiss scientists and environmentalists while also try an appeal to who? Themselves? It's just one of a multitude of religions, belief systems and movements that are constantly influencing decisions on planet earth. Trying to convey a common goal to better enrich life here for future generations seems almost insurmountable in the face of it all.

Fixing economy = everyone's money problems are better, we all die in the future do to the irreversible damage wrought by global warming
You can still survive with a shitty economy. It's harder, but it's doable. I really worry how long people will be around if we don't fix the environment NOW.
