My year was pretty awesome:

- I found a new room, which is even cooler and bigger than the last one, and I didn't even have to look for it or move all my stuff to another building.

- I finally passed my History exam and got into University!

- I went from red hair to blonde. And it suits me.

- Been to loaaads of cool festivals/gigs (Dour/Pinkpop/Lowlands + Radiohead, RATM, QOTSA, Foo Fighters, Slagsmalsklubben 3x, Kaizers Orchestra 4x (!!!))

- I've made loaaaads of new friends.

- I've been to my first karaoke night.

- For the first time since... preschool or something, I'm finally really happy with myself and with my life.

2008 = TRANSITION YEAR

everything that happened was a transition from the old ways to the new ways and though it's occasionally been difficult, it's been a really good learning process.

i feel like i've grown up a lot. no one said growing up is easy, and this year certainly proved it.

Jan-March: Worst spell of seasonal depression ever, totally unable to cope, even the trip to Florida in February didn't help, almost gave up hope until the job offer came in

April-October: Moved from desolate horrible Prairies to spectacular amazing mountains, worked 50-60 hours a week, made tons of cash, made tons of new friends, smoked tons of killer weed, drank tons of booze

October: Moved to Australia on one-year work visa

November-December: Chilled out, got back into reading and even writing a little, hung out on the beach, travelled up East Coast of Oz, drank more than I'd like but still under control, no seasonal depression in sight (y)

Some ups and downs, but all in all a lot better than last year. Next year should be even better what with living in Australia and all.

- Ended internship, got a job on a reality show that was supposed to last three weeks and has now been three months
- Did my first open mic and did really well
- Went back to Salt Lake and did stand up for friends and family for the first time and did eh okay
- Did my first booked show and killed
- Went to a party with all the people I've been wanting to hang out with forever, improv gods, danced the night away and shot the shit with people I idolize
- Fell in love with a douche, got over it
- Had my friend Dave move into the house two days ago, my screenwriting partner, we are gonna rock it out
- Feel totally happy with my life and everything for the first time in a long time

I do wonder though, about people who say their year was shit. If 08 taught me anything it's that life pretty much is what you make of it. Like, I get that crap beyond personal control happens (death, illness, random acts of theft/violence, being dumped, etc) but it's what you do afterwards that matters?

I could easily have been really negative about 08, because alot of unpleasant things happened to me. But I'm not. Sure, crap happened, but I've had a fucking ball as well, and I'm a better person for it all, blah blah.

Not saying everyone should be shouting for joy about 08, but to write off a whole year as being shit and pointless seems a bit...well...pointless in itself.
