I'm finally getting one. I was so against them forever, and now I'm actually switching over. Sigh.

My PC burned out when my dad insisted we look at what was rattling. We took the cover off before turning it off and something just fizzled in there when it got bumped.

I'm looking at the 15" Macbook Pros. Any advice?

Just curious...

But if you've been so adamantly against Macs all this time, why are you suddenly switching when your PC dies? What made you decide to make the change?

The base-model 15'' Macbook Pro is the business, me personally i wouldnt go for the souped up model.

My macbook pro, which i bought in February was the same price as the base level Macbook Pro, and the new one is much better.

Go for it!

i dont know whether to get a top level iMac or bottom level MacPro.

i used to also be anti mac, but since i've been using one, i NEVER have problems with it.

A few things. One is I just don't have the time to piss around with my home computer like I used to - and a Macbook Pro will do a lot more of what I need practically out of the box.

My workplace is all mac, so something that works smoothly with Quicktime (and has Quicktime Pro) is useful, and I've always had less trouble using wireless networks with mac laptops.

I had to fix my wife's computer this last month, which was basically just taking it apart and backing up her hard drive - but even that was an absolute monster because of how Windows XP Home does ownership of files in a locked folder. I don't plan on upgrading to Vista and learning all the crap that goes with it, and I have to spend 8 or 9 hours a day with Leopard anyways.

Lots of reasons. I'm going to miss Winamp a lot, and I still prefer how windows explorer works with files (with the exception of the color labeling being missing).

im deciding between an iMac and a MacPro (not macbook bro), both desktops.

i feel like iMac is on its way out? maybe something new coming soon?

i want to run final cut, protools and photoshop on it, not necessarily at the same time, but i want them to run smoothly... advice?

my laptop is not my main computer, so it was easy for me to choose this 15"macbook. i love it for what it does: internet and my homework. thasssit thasssall.

then again, i think that if i didnt have my macbook (i started out with an 13" ibook in late 04), i would cry. i have come to depend on it, i carry it around nearly daily.

i have no useful input other than i love my mac for no good reason. i just love it.

iMac is definitely not on its way out. it may have a new version within a 6 months or so (snow leopard is coming soon too). unless a new version is what you meant, in which yeah... probably a little update. MacPros are expensive as shit arent they? either way, you can run that shit real easy on even a mac mini probably. But my iMac runs everything very smooth, same with the macbook pro. they are pretty powerful machines.

MacPro quad or 8 core is what we use at work for doing just that.
