absinthe?

i've never had it, but i noticed they had it at the store the last time i was in. apparently the made it legal or something. shit still costs about $60 a bottle though.


so whats the word on the stuff? it it worth even trying for that kind of money?

i think the stuff they sell legally over here isn't as strong as the stuff you get overseas. i tried some that was brought over from spain and ended up calling my high school ex and yelling at him over the phone for an hour (while i had a boyfriend mind you), the cops came to the party twice for us screaming karaoke so loud, and i lost my voice for two weeks.

i don't ever need to have it again, but i'm glad to say i did (y)

i had the proper euro-stuff and, well, drank in large quantities i can concur it does provide a very curious effect indeed. it's not like "wwoooahhh i'm so hiiiiighhh man!" it's.. odd. you do feel a bit zoned out but it's not too out there. but then again i was 18 and hadn't been drinking for that long at that stage. also i think if you want to get to the chopping your ear off stage you have to drink it by the GALLON. i bought it in harrods, too! no shit knock-off absinthe, here! from harrods in london no less.

i wouldn't buy it for its delicious flavour. buy it if you want something fancy, and have a spoon with a hole and a wee flame.. whatever it is they do with the absinthe. i did it a couple of times and it was a laugh, the pomp around drinking it.

I didn't notice much from it. It wasn't like I was roaming the streets half naked after a few shots. It tasted like Uzo, and made me a litle buzzed. I was drinking before hand, so I'm not sure exactly what kind of buzz it created, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I hear the stuff over seas is the real deal though, and can make quite the scene.

My friends went to Prague this summer and brought back the "real" stuff...we've done it twice...the first time we sugar cubed it and did the whole ritual...I didn’t really care for the taste nor the resulting high but I must admit the time we drank it from a sober start it went directly to my head,like instantly,not unlike banana moonshine I tried in Thailand…:eek:

I had some from Ireland once and I concur that what they're selling here isn't the same. I didn't particularly like the feeling, its definitely not being drunk. I just felt sort of weird and out of it.

I think its just slightly weaker. its more fun with a group of people for sure.

Every time I drink more than half a bottle, I stop recognizing what I'm doing, and I can't remember the day after. It is just a very aggressive alcoholic drink. Lot of people become very aggressive and violent after having to much. It is very nice if you're drunk anyway.
