Seriously, Hockey needs more people like Avery.

I agree. The guy performed on the Rangers as well as being an agitator. He backs it up when a team uses him properly.

Funny how a sport that has bare knuckle fighting on the ice in front of "families" will suspend a player for saying "sloppy seconds." As if hockey is a gentleman's sport such as chess or cricket. What, suddenly parents have to supervise thier kids watching Sports Center?

What hockey fan didn't like watching the video that created the Avery Rule?

I hated him much more when he was on the Rangers, probably because I hate the Rangers and Ranger fans so much, that Hitler should have chose to imprison and eliminate them (them and Bruins fans, but not the Bruins org.).

Anyways, some to most teams have an Avery to an extent, under a sort of 2 enforcer system (Avery-Orr in NY last season, Cote-Downie, Phila last season, Ruutu-Laraque, Pit last season, Clarkson-Leblond, NJ). It works good, one player starts shit, the other finishes shit. Draws pentalties what have you. But Avery is a little shit that craves the spotlight. A doll-playing queer.

Six game suspension, huh?

Wonder where he will end up considering the Dallas Stars organization already took him off the roster sheet on their homepage.....

no I think the bottom line is when you're on a team, you're a representative of the team and therefore there can be CONSEQUENCES to running your mouth off and pissing people off.

it doesn't matter how slutty Elisha Cuthbert is, avery's remarks had nothing to do with hockey and really weren't needed.

if he wanted to say it, he should have said it on the ice so they could through down the mits and duke it out for us all to enjoy.

that's just my opinion.

So "running your mouth off" by saying "sloppy seconds" to get under another players skin in a locker room to the press bring the team to a lower standard than the same players on the ice in a uniform in their home arena fighting someone from another team and cursing at them like a sailor or a coach getting mad at a game on the bench yelling at his team or the other team etc. The first example gets you a six game suspension. The other examples are just part of the game and representing your team in a good light. Bizzare to me.
But then again, how many star players in the NBA have been rewarded with heavy contracts but have domestic abuse, etc. on their record.
Avery's remarks had everything to do with hockey. It was a planned and calculated comment to get under the skin of an opposing player who happened to be dating his exgirlfriend and the Stars happened to be playing next. This had little to do with his exgirlfriend. If Dion would have been frustrated at the game with Avery, he would have taken a penalty while Avery stayed on the ice looking innocent and serving his purpose of taking talent off the ice for 2 minutes while the Stars scored with a plus 1 man advantage. Thats hockey.

Anyone who takes Hockey seriously is an idiot.
Espousing the virtues of the game is about as hilarous as you can get.

Any sport that not only allows fighting, but practically encourages it can NEVER be looked at with any credibility.
I mean imagine if they allowed fighting in the NBA or MLB?

...And we're not even going to get into the whole plate breaking competition.

At least Avery knows he's a clown, and he plays his role appropriately.

Define seriously so that I make sure that I'm not an idoit. I go to games often, have a fantasy hockey league and own jerseys. Is that too serious?

This Avery fellow is creating tension.

Elisha Cuthbert aka Sloppy Seconds (y)

well I don't know...but I still have no problem with his suspension.
but I also just think that guys who call their ex-girlfriends "sloppy seconds" are usually just impotent assholes anyway.

obviously everyone likes the drama...so it's all good.

regardless of his suspension, dude's still a complete douche

i think guys like them are hardly worth their value. he's not really what you would label as an "enforcer", his hot temper takes just as many penalties as he draws, and his offensive capabilities are streaky at best.

they made a big deal about it in the news during the playoffs last season, but he proved to be a non factor. i think they even healthy scratched him from lineup for the last game or two.

(!) and we're talking Hockey on the BBMB because of his douchebaggery.
That's why he's arguably more valuable to the league than Crosby or Ovechkin.

i hardly think that some schmoe watching his douchebaggery being shown on the local news is going to grab the remote and turn on versus just to watch a game.
