View Full Version : New Years Eve plans?

I've narrowed mine down to two choices.

First is a masquerade ball at a small, trendy bar in the centre of the city, about $80 incl. beer, wine & sparkling till 1am.

Second is a dance party at a much bigger venue, just outside the CBD, about $110 incl. basics, wine, beer, sparkling, RTDs etc. till 3am.

I can't choose. What're your plans?

I have two friends who are both due to have babies in early Jan, so I'm hosting a low-key thing here at mine with the two other couples and their little ones. All very boring I'm afraid. Just before midnight though whoever is still awake will head up to the roof, I'm sure there will be other partiers up there, and we'll watch the fireworks.

same plans like the two years before

going to my sister's and her husband's house with two friends of them + my mother and brother
playing games like guitar hero, watch a bit tv, eating fat making food, drink alcohol and fire off some fireworks

Friends of mine are renting out a small lounge around 60-80 people or so and it's $100.00 a person but that's all you can drink top shelf from 8pm-2am with a dinner buffet.

I really would rather have a low key NYE and not spend the money at all, but I want to be with my friends and that's where they all will be. NYE is so overrated, amature night.

I hate New Years Eve. Toooooo many expectations and I am a sucker to it and always wake up New Years Day disappointed. Great way to start off the fucking year.

Good idea. I have lowered my expectations to -50.

can't decide if I want to spend $25 to see Jay Reatard or just go to a house party. I should probably do the show thing, so I can avoid the drama that inevitably occurs at house parties....fighting, puking, crying, etc.

I hate new years. I love dressing up for it though. (y)

Got invited to a dude's cocktail and absinthe party. He holds them about once every 6 months.

The reputation of these parties is legendary. Can't wait.

Yeah, I'd always had quite good New Year's experiences till last one, it was about 30 degrees out (even though it was dark) and just after midnight my then boyfriend accused me of cheating on him. I remember crying and thinking, this shit does not bode well for the new year.

The previous year was great, till I had my drink spiked.

I remain moderately optimistic this 'un will turn out ok though.

This'll be the first time that I'll actually go out on NYE.
I'm going to see Slagsmalsklubben in Rotterdam with my 2 best friends (I promised the dude that we'd go see them if they came to Holland, as he was jealous that I'd seen them more times than him :p). It won't start until 0:30 AM though, so we still have to make plans what to do before. Maybe hang out in the Irish Pub or something and eat 'oliebollen'. :)

The crappy thing is though that on NYE you have to pay to get into a normal pub, so those costs + the cost of Slagsmalsklubben = expensive evening for a poor student.
But i don't care really, as this will probably be my best NYE evar!
Finally no sitting at home with my parents who are usually asleep by 10 PM. Yay, party with my favourite people. :D

Russhie, I totally vote dance party.

NYE is a hard one...I've had it be the worst night of my life, and I have also had some totally incredible ones. I can't help the expectations, I just figure it's kinda like the Star Trek movies at this point so it just goes back and forth.

This year though, to avoid attempting to go out and having it be lame, I am doing a 5k run with my dad and brother and his fiance. Starts at 11:30 pm and you run around this park thing like twice with the goal being to end around midnight. I'm excited about it, I mean who knows how many New Years I will be spending with the family, so I'm looking forward to it. Then I might try to go out after that but we'll see.

It's going to be freeeeezing.

I love dressing up for it though. (y)

me too, the bad thing is that im the only one who dresses up more glammy so that i look like an overdressed ass and then i get to hear comments like 'are you trying to get a guy?'

fucking annoying
but then and x mas are the only days when i have a reason to dress up some better so i take my chances or my better clothes will dust to death

cry for me argentina

My Birthday's new years eve, and it NEVER has lived up to my expectations, everyone's all screwed over from Christmas, and too screwed up to care about my day... I usually end up at a friends house, but I've been told that this year it's going to be different.. We'll see.

i'd love to be able to spend it down in texas, but i dont have high expectations to have that plan work out

otherwise i'll probably do the usual football, early dinner, then maybe find a friends party afterwards. havent heard much about events just yet, its still too early to think about that stuff.

No plans yet but new dress coming in two days (see gift purchase or other thread in sure shots).

I allow myself one new cocktail dress a year, hopefully we'll be doing something cool.

Not quite sure yet, but my roomie has a cabin in Canmore (http://photos.igougo.com/images/p95720-Kananaskis-Canmore_Townsite.jpg) (which is between Calgary & Banff) that we may be staying at. If it works out, it should be tons of fun.

The only one of note was the Windsor. If you're heading there you'll be likely to hook up. (y)

We decided to do the dance party thing. I'm excited but not really...It'll be just another club night, but I better get a disco pash at midnight!

Everyone seems so over it, but I still love this sort of shit - generally the vibe is really upbeat and celebratory and it's one of the only nights of the year that most venues are gonna go off. While I'm still young and can get away with short shorts and tight tops and ridic high heels...I'm gonna max it out, I think.

That's the spirit! As I get older I'm realizing my opportunities to live it up will dwindle so hit it while it's hot.

And post pictures :)
