Ok so most of you know my husband is losing his job... no excitement there.
Today he applied for a ton of jobs in another city. We've been kicking the idea of moving around for some time, but now... it looks like we're going for it! EEEK i'm so excited. We're looking at moving to Richmond, VA (Yeti, here i come!). it's 3 hours from home, one hourish from DC, two hours to the beach and we'll have an amusement park 20 mins away!
I'm so excited at the thought of a new adventure. i've always wanted to move and try somewhere different. finally it looks like we're going for it!
AGH! EXCITED!

the only real downside is selling our house. it's kinda scary thinking about it. it may come down to my husband staying with friends and me staying with the house until we sell it. i really don't like that idea, but we 'll have to do what we have to do.
Shame, that was such a cute house. Well it still is I suppose.
It always makes me sad knowing that for the money you spent on that house, is less than I spent on a tiny one bedroomed apartment :(

yeah well the joke's on us b/c we're gonna have to spend a lot more money on a house in richmond and it'll probably be a lot smaller.
don't worry. i'll make our new house just as cute.
Don't say smaller, the correct term is 'cosier'! :D
Living in the city is good, it can be a great laugh. I now prefer to live in an 'edge town' or small village because I spent way too much on socialising when I lived in a city center

The distance thing sucks though. but Im sure you guys will get through it fine. Now what about your job. Will you be able to find something easily wherever you move to?

i'm up for anything. i'm much more adventurous about jobs. i'm a receptionist now, but i'd be down for baking bread at a grocery store. or working at a copy place. i love doing the print shop kinda jobs here. i'll be able to find something easily.

ASAP. his job ends in Feb so our goal is for him to have a new job by then and begin selling the house.

Is it not possible to maybe rent out your house, and rent someplace for yourself in VA? For like a year? That way you will know if you really want to buy there, and to see what happens with the economy overall before you put your house on the market. Just a thought.

yeah. we've thought of that too, and it's a great idea. renting would be hard for me though. i like expressing myself through my house. gardening. painting rooms and decorating. it'd def be a sacrifice for me, but maybe a necessary one.

I hear ya. For one year though, it might be worth it, so you don't feel rushed into making any big decisions about buying/selling property, you know? Because those are big deals - you don't want to feel pressured to accept a lower offer for your house because you need to close to get a new one; you don't want to have to rush to find a new place which might cause you to overlook potential problems with the property, etc.

nobody with a brain moves into Ohio.....
I am glad that you are exited about moving to the River City. I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Va and moved to Richmond when I went to college at VCU. I did relocate to South Florida and the Panhandle of Texas for a 4 year period but I always wanted to get back to Richmond. Some people that live here complain about Richmond being small time, dirty, crime ridden and on and on. They tend to be people from the Northeast or other parts of the country. Some of them grew up here and just feel the need to get out and experience a new town. Richmond is kind of slow but has lots to offer.
There are lots of nice neighborhoods near downtown and the Fan District. Let me know if you have any questions concerning neighborhoods, housing costs, realtors, restaurants, nightlife, etc. I have a good friend that is a realtor for Long & Foster.
I loved living in Church Hill when I was single but you have to be careful because of crime. I now live in the Far West End. I will not go on and on so just let me know if you have any questions at all regarding anything.
Best wishes selling your home and making a smooth transition.

Hey, I was born 1 hour from Columbus and 1 hour from Cleveland. Ashland to be exact. It is Amish country and I still have relatives in Ashland and Cleveland.
