I just got my right index finger caught in a piece of pneumatic clamping machinery that was basically crushing the whole damn finger in slow motion. oh man, did I ever let out a holler. I thought for sure it was broken, but it's not. praise the lord! it's a big swollen gross thing though. but I can bend it and type, yay! ouch. y's are hard.
also, I have a question, the cursor on this flim flam mac computer keeps skipping around. can anybody tell me what that might be? like just now, I was typing and keeps skipping up to a random line and filling in the letters there. it's happened like 4 times while I've been writing this. wtf?
I share your relief with the first part of your post. I'm afraid however that I am a PC so cannot help with you Mac troubles.

i find it neat that you are combining two unrelated things into a single thread
try unplugging/replugging the mouse. that and/or a restart will fix most stupid problems

I'm on a laptop, no mouse. I restarted the machine, but it's still doing it. I closed and reopened firefox too, but it's still doing it. well, it's not doing it now. gootho. I wonder how long I can go typing wih
oops, that's how long. see! that's supposed to say "good. I wonder how long I can go typing without it happening", but it jumped back into "good" when I was typing "without". feck! stupid. is a virus?
my squashed finger is freezing cold right now!

Make sure no part of either hand is wandering too close to the touchpad while you type.

okay, I'm going to try to type without having any part of anything near the touch pad. let's see. okay, hmm, working so far. alright, good I don't know what to say. my finger is feeling very stiff, I wrapped it with cotton and tape. it warmed it up and it feels less cold. I think I burst something inside of it. well, it's not skipping, I did change some settings. I wonder if my hands being cold had something to do with it. or maybe my settings changing helped it. who knows, looks like it's fixed though, woo hoo! thanks everbody!

yeah, i always have the problem with my touchpad. just change the settings so its not as sensitive and it won't be as big of a problem. that, or develop an impossibly perfect typing posture with your hands.

Nice to hear your finger is ok....did you just stand there and watch it get crushed in slow motion? Like in Zoolander with the steamroller?
Now to the mousepad problem...use your tongue, that works!

I did stand there and watch it get crushed in slow motion. I was like, "oh no, OH NO, AHHCH, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCKKKK! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRA AMMMMMMMMMACKKK! "
it's just a bit stiff and swollen now, I expect a full recovery. but man oh man, I really did think it was broken at first because it hurt like a bitch. basically according to this chart (http://www.infovisual.info/03/027_en.html), the proximal phalanx of my right index finger was being crushed over a the corner of a frame by a flat metal bar and I was sure it was going to snap. emergency! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v350/sarkyd/FINGERALMOSTBREAK.jpg)
the thing about that touchpad is I use it all the time with no problem...I think it had to do with how cold my fingers were in relation to the tempature of my palm or something. it was totally weird. I was worried about a virus because some weird window had popped up earlier, but it never came back, and after I changed the settings for it to react more slowly, it was fine.

I, for one, am intrigued.
I think someone should pay you to write, you're good.
