thanks for sharing, palast does some good work.
no surprise that obama is caving into the right. the no child left behind initiative was such a disaster. it was pretty depressing reading about it in molly ivins' bushwhacked.

I haven't gotten a chance to read all of those articles yet, but I'd just like to say I'm a little worried about that guy being in charge because I know that the schools are a mess here and I am against vouchers and schools competing for "business". education isn't a competition, because in competitions, someone always has to be the loser.
I'm reluctant to talk about some of my experiences on here, for privacy reasons...but, I just know that all the standardized testing that goes on does not ensure a good education. the kids are learning to take tests, they're not learning about life.
ugh, I could go on and on about this topic. I just wish that people would realize that the most important thing for children and adolescents to learn is to be a responsible citizen. I don't think it's necessary for kids to have to all learn the same things or be at certain levels. I'm very much for allowing people to grow and expand their knowledge in areas they are more proficient at...and like. I honestly think we'd be a happier society and actually like learning...because people wouldn't feel forced to learn certain things that are probably never going to be applicable to their lives.
it's tough to teach that way, it's hard to organize it, and people are lazy, they want to hand out worksheets, they want everyone to learn the same way and that's that. it's infuriating and it's not working and it never will. hmph!
