View Full Version : How Sharp is your TV

Logic would assume that turning your tv's sharpness level all the way up would give you the best picture aka "sharp" picture, but sometimes flatscreens and old fashion tv's would become distorted on a high sharp setting. Now what I would like to know is the exact sharpness setting of your tv.

My tv is as sharp as they get...it is a Sharp Aquos heheh. Seriously though, I have my sharpness set at 0, contrast up a little, colour at 0, brightness/backlight settings at 4.

Mine is a full hd lcd set, messed around with the settings when I first got it and pretty happy with it now. (y)

I've got an old fashioned t.v., I've had it since high school. over 10 years now. the color and clarity on it is pretty darn good.

the weird thing is, I don't think I've ever changed the batteries in the remote all these years, I'm not even kidding. that is creepy.

I'm pretty much against flat screen t.v.s and all this digital crap. I like regular t.v. blue ray's pretty sweet though. everything else is crap. until everything looks like blue ray, you guys can have all your expensive gadgets that add up to a whole lotta nothin if you ask me.

I bought a $300 Daewoo tube at Best Buy four years ago. I'm thinkin' "Daewoo?" Is that a viable, you know, scenario? I thought they made cars. But its been working out pretty good. Sharpness up full power.

My TV's sharpness setting is set just below the sharpness level where one could cut their eyes watching. I usually set all my TV's this way, unless of course a relative i don't like or something comes over. Then I go ahead and set it at razor sharp.

I thought about that the other day, too. Opened up the remote and the batteries, while still working, were getting that crusty (alkaline?) stuff,
so I replaced them anyway.

I'm a very visual person, but I just don't get the time and money spent on t.v. when I watch t.v. or movies, I appreciate the visual aspects, but I don't feel the need to have something be crystal clear, I just want the content to be quality.

sure, action adventure things are pretty awesome in HD and wide screen, but I don't see the value in spending thousands of dollars to have it in your own home when you can just go to the movies every once in awhile and have it all gigantic and in your face.

honestly, I think the whole thing's a scam.

even if i could afford them i wouldnt buy them

those huge ass and clear screens make me feel ill and i also find too much/big technology in your room quite uncomfortable and cold

i rather want one of those small wood covered tvs, circa made in the 50s

a combination of the both would be cool, they should make retro looking flat screens.

With wired remote controls, maybe 20ft. of cable and some sort of grill cloth from the 60's for the front speakers. Bring back the knob station dialer too, 'cept now it has a few thousand stations on it.

I saw those mini flats bose carries in their line. Pretty cool. The size of your pc monitor. I went further in the speakers department and WOW, only three small size speakers in the form of your common pc speaker can seriously make the WHOLE store live. The WHOLE store was just loud and the sound system was very clear. They dont take away space. Basically, you have the audio box that is like the size of Playstation3, with small 3 speakers all about 5 to 7 inch in height that can actually make the volume so loud and crisp to fill a whole store department. Bose is the shit.

maybe $253.

I'm sorry but Bose is so NOT the shit. Its like saying McDonald's is gourmet.

This may be coming from an audio snobbery point of view but when you look beyond the surface Bose gear is made from incredibly cheap parts and rely on good marketing and fancy product names to justify their massively inflated prices.

A $200-300 system from almost any brand will out perform a Bose system running in the thousands of dollars.

Bose does not allow stores to have their products set up anywhere near their other products, to make it more difficult to compare products. Bose have very severe marketing restrictions on stores selling their products. Another tool in their marketing arsenal.

Also unlike any other audio visual/speaker manufacturer, Bose refuses to publish any frequency response charts or distortion data on their products (and with good reason).

Sorry for going on a rant but I get it really gets under my skin when people mention Bose as a quality product.

I used to think they same until I got my new TV.

But last week I went to the cinema to see Quantum of Solace.

Was a disappointment from start to finish. Tickets prices insanely expensive. Same with snacks. Then when the movie started I realised within 5 seconds that the centre of the screen was out of focus. Picture looked terrible. My friends noticed the same. I couldn't concentrate on the movie so I went out to candybar and told a staff member, who said 'no worries' then immediately turned back to his workmate and continued their conversation.

Nothing got done about it. The movie was ruined.

So fuck the cinema. I'll stay at home with a blu ray and watch the film in full HD thankyou very much.

Mikizee, thanks for the "Bose" links, very interesting reading..

Bose always did seem over-priced and sort of cheesy, now I know part of the story. That marketing breakdown was fantastic, the Bose Company is not unlike J. Peterman's from Seinfeld, aesthetically pleasing product with a story (copy) behind it.

I'll stick it out with my Klipsch system, when a snare sounds like snare and a cymbal resonates like it should.

All of these links are pretty cool.

Thanks!

Klipsch is a reputable brand.

Noticed your signature, I have Bon Iver's album on vinyl and it is fantastic.

I popped into my local hi end audio store today to say merry christmas and check out the turntable I have my eye on (Majik LP12).

I asked how much a fully specc'ed Linn Sondek LP12 turntable is, twenty eight thousand fucking dollars!!! I almost cried.

Good audio costs a lot of money.

In the case of BOSE, so does bad audio.
