Here's some interesting videos I found of Johnny Depp reading out some of his correspondence with HST during the making of Fear and Loathing. They're pretty interesting, seeing as they're both fascinating people in their own right.

Has anyone seen the new HST biopic? What's the latest on the film adaptation of The Rum Diary?

ha, that's pretty interesting. it's funny how self-conscious johnny depp seems when he's reading his own letters. also, how you can tell he knows he was kind of trying too hard.

this is the new documentary: Gonzo: The life and works or Dr. Hunter S. Thompson (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479468/)
it's excellent and i really enjoyed it. They have a ton of footage of HST & Acosta & Steamen and the Hells Angles that I hadn't seen before. They also used some outakes from an older documentary called "Breakfast with Hunter"
Depp does a lot of narrating and letter reading in "Gonzo" as well. You might already know that he lived in Hunter's basement for several months when preparing to do Fear and Loathing and they got very close during that time.
I don't think production has even begun yet on the Rum Diary film...I haven't read anything about it in months.

i havn't seen the new one, but i'm looking forward to it.
"breakfast with hunter" is pretty good.
Id also recommend "fear and loathing on the road to hollywood" (which is on that criterion collection). Its from the 70s and features hunter designing the statue that would eventually be built for his funeral.
Also good is "Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride: Hunter S. Thompson On Film" which features the infamous Gary Busey interviews.
