Paul's Boutique to Get 20th Anniversary Reissue
The Beastie Boys' classic second LP Paul's Boutique is set to get the 20th Anniversary treatment, although details about what exactly that entails are still largely unavailable. A new Paul's set had been rumored for months, and the trio have now confirmed the news on their website, announcing a forthcoming remastered version. Amazon.com has had the album listed as a Janaury 27 release for some time now, promising that it will feature "EXTRA TRACKS"-- and you know they mean it, since it's in all-caps. Alas, our repeated attempts to get information from the Beasties' publicists have come up dry.
That makes sense now, since the group is collecting email addresses and looks set to first announce details to its fans. They're also cleverly drawing people in with a loop of Paul's highlights that frankly makes me a bit depressed about having to listen to a bunch of promos today that will inevitably not be as good as a few chopped-up minutes of decades-old music.
Expect more of these sorts of things-- deluxe anniversary editions, bonus track-loaded reissues like the past, present, or future catalog releases from the Cure, Pavement, Saint Etienne, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, New Order, and many more-- in the next year or so: A lot of artists are wisely realizing they're staring down their last chance to release their catalogs on CD, and so they're going all out to create definitive versions of their work, and get fans to buy their products one last time. (NB: In the cases of the Cure, Pavement, Saint Etienne, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, New Order, and Beastie Boys, we'll happily play/pay along.)

There's an update too:
UPDATE: Reader Tom Graham helpfully points out that the Insound listing for this release claims it will have track-by-track commentary, á la a DVD. He also says it's a "pretty cool idea if true" and we agree.

pioneer
Main Entry: 1pi·o·neer
Pronunciation: \ˌpī-ə-ˈnir\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French pionier, from Old French peonier foot soldier, from peon foot soldier, from Medieval Latin pedon-, pedo — more at pawn
Date: 1523
1: a member of a military unit usually of construction engineers
2 a: a person or group that originates or helps open up a new line of thought or activity or a new method or technical development b: one of the first to settle in a territory
3: a plant or animal capable of establishing itself in a bare, barren, or open area and initiating an ecological cycle
The B-Boys might not be "pieoneer's". Neither is using spellcheck.

staring down there last chance?......oh the young, this is old hat, been done for decades and decades.
this is what we call re-hash,which happens in all formats, dvd, cd, video games, it goes on and on....
enjoy the paul re-hash (i will, i got mine $13 bucks from deep discount) but dont believe this is some kinda pieoneer move by BB......
well, um the album was kinda pioneering. but you're right, i don't believe the beasties when they sent that newsletter saying 'we're doing a brand new amazing thing that no one else has ever done before'...oh they didn'tdo that, did they?
no one has said it's a pioneering move. it's a re-issue and remaster of an amazing album to mark it's 20th year anniversary. given the reaction to the album at the time, that is some achievement and shows it's true worthiness.
you're opinions and brief history about 're-hashes' is pointless, irrelevant, and just makes you seem like a little prick who'll moan and be negative about anything just for attention. well, you got it.

what are you like 15? you dont even know what you or me is talkin about, why are you here anyway? go eat fish and chips or somthin....
go nurse on some uk bands tit, this is americas band for americans.....why are you here? i dont get it, why are you here.....i think i hear oasis calling you......
'americas band for americans' - i'm not even going to start with how stupid a comment that is.
i also like how you responded initially to the 'staring down the last chance' part of the article. i think you misunderstood it. it's in regards to CD's effectively dying out. it's not claiming re-issues are a new trend.
try to read it a bit more slowly next time to enhance your understanding. also, read back over your posts before you submit them. i think you meant to say 'why are you here', that much i'm sure of, but you actually repeat yourself quite a few times. it's a little embarassing, to be honest.
anyway, i'm going to listen to some oasis now (in all honesty thank you for the suggestion, i picked up some live bootleg from their G-MEX show in 1997 which sounds pretty good).
oh and also, i didn't get a chance to say, micodin - cheers for the post. am dead excitied about this one.

Yeah dave sort it out. The Beastie Boys are obviously racist and hate anybody who isn't from America. That photo on the welcome page had me thinking about having my account deleted. When the band decide to phone richie up and admit that they're not doing anything new (and ask for their footage back from the dvds he has that they've been looking for), it's over for us as fans.
Hey richie, can I borrow some money?
