this morning on the radio they were talking about the longevity of rock bands (ac/dc played here last night) and here is the question:

what bands from the 90's are still going to be around and touring 20/30 years from now?

the only thing i could think of was possibly pearl jam. any other thoughts?

those bastards fight too much

thats old news, the tabloid version, those two love each other like..erm..brothers. all that fightin was youthful drug addled exuberance, they would be lost without each other. i guarantee you those two will be making tunes forever. they both might not talk to each other a lot but they know what they have is too good to piss about with. especially after what they went thru as kids. read the books mate then you might revise that statement

if they don't die of hepatitis

Kiedis is seriously sick...eventually will be in need of a new kidney...and the fact that he'll be ineligible for transplant due to his dope day's don't sound good...unless he does blackmarket surgery...Fruiscante currently won't even discuss the band only his new record and it's said they are all agreed on an indefinite hiatus...except for Chad who was talking bullshit about preliminary work on a new record months back...but in reality he's in a "superband" featuring Michael Anthony (Van Halen),Sammy Hagar (Van Hagar) and guitar hero Joe Satriani that's recoridng right now...jeezuz...

Since 2000, I've seen many bands burst onto the scene and generate massive buzz, just to disappear again. It makes it hard for me to pay attention to new music in a way, because you see so many of these bands come and go you can just wait until you can be bothered, and check something random out. Or you just don't bother, because they're all part of the hype monster and they'll just vanish. Modern bands don't seem to last.

I read some girl saying that Oracular Spectacular was her generation's Dark Side of the Moon and was shocked by the comparison. That's all it takes to make an impact on listeners??? Meanwhile it passes most people by that the Neptunes have been all over popular music for the last 10 years or so.

Anyway (on topic), I'd love to speculate about who will last, but if the Beastie Boys can become the most enduring hip-hop icons of the 1980s, I think it's too hard to call. Trent Reznor will always make music I think.

Pearl Jam and Radiohead will be the 90's bands that kids will still want to see in 10 years.

I think Arctic Monkeys will still be around, although not neccesarily as a group.

Alkaline Trio don't really show signs of stopping, neither do NOFX only because they barely tour and people always want them to play so theyll prolly take a year off do some different lil coast tours, go through the heartland(maybe) and then do nothing else for another year or so.
