I'm not surprised but I literally lol'd when I saw this.
For a second I thought of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo and that huge graffiti covered building. It was about then that I decided that graffiti was lame for several years.

The good news is that this type of shit forces the good artists to go deeper underground and explore more unconventional styles. This type of pop-culture barfing is what brought about the more wildstyle-blowout approach to writing I enjoyed in it's heyday in the 90's freight train underground.

Honestly I'm excited to see what's next but it's kinda lame to see graffiti go this whore-a-ly $$$ mainstream. It will take several years for this to blow over I think with real artists.

This wouldn't have been cutting edge 15 years ago.

Now here's a step in the right direction...

when graffiti went into galleries it was over. street art relies on context.

Absolutely-it's one of the things that pisses me off a lot-people who would usually be horrified to get a peice of work on their wall or whatever, lapping it up so long as it's worth a bit.

A friend of mine did some pieces in town here and the local paper did a story saying it could have been Banksy-like there's no-one else in this country can hold a spray can. They had a good paint-off for a while-council paint the wall, it gets tagged etc etc-in the end the paper put out an appeal for someone to call in with a name!
