I have three I watch pretty regularily...all involve a travel narrative...
Diners,Drive Ins and Dives… (http://www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html)I want this guy’s job…it’s not that he’s particlairly interesting or witty, just an amicable dude…but what a gig road tripping in the USA to various city’s and states famous or infamous spoats for home cook’n,soul food,BBQ,burger and drive in/through fare from coast to yankee coast…this show can make me do the Pavlov’s dog, especially after a pub night…
No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain… (http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Anthony_Bourdain)sometimes Bourdain annoys me to no end, sometimes he amuses me…but it’s always interesting…I’ve been reading the book in my physio’s waiting room,it’s really good, beautiful photography…
Spain on the Road Again… (http://www.spainontheroadagain.com/)I got a personal bias for this one…”The show features Iron Chef Mario Batali, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, New York Times food writer Mark Bittman, and Spanish actress Claudia Bassols. Each episode covers a different region of Spain as the foursome explore the country's culinary traditions and history.”...

i havent seen/heard of that last one you mention, but is seems pretty interesting.
the other two shows i do like to watch on occasion. they certainly make me want to go out more often and binge on all that sort of food though.
my personal favorite though is good eats with alton brown. the way he goes about explaining everything and all the little tidbits you can pick up from the show are the sorts of things that i really enjoy about cooking. if i were destined to host my own cooking show, it would be strikingly similar to that one.

Yeah he’s pretty clever…I like the way he breaks down the molecular science of cooking…and he does some funny pop culture referencing as well…kinda like the Bill Nye the science guy of the culinary world…he also has a show on cable where he trips around on a motorcycle…plus his commentary on the Iron Chef is the only thing that still has me occasionally watching it…(y)

we watch DDD weekly. whenever we travel we look up what places from DDD are in the town we're going.
i love Iron Chef (as long as they're not killing live things) and Good Eats. Alton Brown is such a goofball. i <3 him!
oh oh ! and Ace of Cakes!

I often wonder if the cake is edible by the time it's delivered...I mean...it takes them like a week to assemble,it seems,I'm always's thining wouldn't it be stale?...or is it all just for presentation?...

I also like Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" as well...you know, where he goes into restaurant's that are on the brink and re-works decor,menu,operations,staff...it's good, get's pretty emotional...I love it when he shuts them down...particularily during mid-service...but you get to see that the guy has an actual heart to match his passion...it's not just the b.s over the top personal slaging that was supposed to make "Hells Kitchen" interesting...

in the uk he doesnt bother with much of the makeover stuff, he might do a few bits decorating but its mainy about sorting the dude thats running the place. he's quality on that program, he really gives a shit but he has a good way of showing them the error of their ways. 9 times out of 10 they do it his way.

I gotta agree with 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.' That's always some good watchin'. I don't particularly like Guy, but then I kind of do... his show, 'Guy's Big Bite' is also something I usually watch when it's on.
I'm a big fan of anything with Giada DeLaurentis in it as well. Not only because I think she's very beautiful, but she has some great recipes as well. My other favorite show - 'Down Home with the Neelys.' Always great.
I'll admit, I'm basically addicted to the Food Network... seriously.

i friggen LOVE lidia's kitchen! when she tastes her food and grunts with pleasure... priceless.
i also love how she ALWAYS says, "add a liiiiiittle bit of olive oil" and GLUG GLUG GLUG dumps like a cup in every time. but i do love her "dab or this, bunch of that" style... i hate cooks who measure everything out exactly
i like jaques pippin (sp?) especially for his little techniques... like i learned how to slice an onion by using his method of holding it together till the last slice
oh, and TINA NORDSTROM (http://www.scandcook.com/filesystem/2005/06/0b8w1190_245x350_6579.jpg). OH. MY. GOD. she is the hottest thing i've ever seen on a cooking show. she's this scandanavian cook who makes basic shit, but looks soooooo delicious making them. i would drop everything and anything for her.

The first and last cookbook I ever bought…it’s the bible in every chef’s kitchen…it’s the BEST… (http://www.amazon.com/Technique-Illustrated-Fundamental-Techniques-Cooking/dp/0812906101)

hey, i was onto sometihng!
he did a whole episode or segment i think about cutting potatoes and carrots. he had a pile of potatoes and cut them all in different styles, it was actually amazing. it was then that i understood how you can cut something different ways and its not really so much about asthetics, but how that cut will cause the vegetable to cook differently. its really logical, but it was good for someone to demonstrate it. i dont think most people would think of it unless someone showed them. he teaches basics that stay with you and can be applied to almost everything, very useful stuff
also there was an episode where he was doing soups and i learned to make soup out of anything and then blend it to make it creamy. i do that all the time, you get in the veggies you don't really like that way and it tastes good, or tricks your palate into eating them(y)
i want that book now
