FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Lynchburg, Va. (January 13, 2009) – Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), a peanut processing company and maker of peanut butter for bulk distribution to institutions, food service industries, and private label food companies, today announced a voluntary recall of peanut butter produced in its Blakely, Georgia processing facility because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Is it just me or has there been a tremendous amount of food recalls these past years?

None of the peanut butter being recalled is sold directly to consumers through retail stores.
Eh, no biggie to me, then.

I don't remember that many recent food recalls except for the spinach thing and jalapeño peppers... Were there more?

Looks like the investigation is broadening....

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090116/ap_on_he_me/salmonella_outbreak

The outbreak has sickened hundreds of people in 43 states and killed at least six. Earlier this week, it prompted Kellogg to pull some of its venerable Keebler crackers from store shelves, as a precaution.

Although the investigation has gone into high gear, Food and Drug Administration officials say much of their information remains sketchy. And new cases are still being reported.

But clearly, what began as an investigation of bulk peanut butter shipped to nursing homes and institutional cafeterias is now much broader.

It includes not just peanut butter, but baked goods and other products that contain peanuts and are sold directly to consumers. Health officials say as many as one-third of the people who got sick did not recall eating peanut butter.

I believe if this shit keeps up, these companies are gonna go out of business for fear of poisoning rather than feeding their consumers.

Oh wait a minute...

Here come the bailouts!!

Can't the peanut man catch a break?...I'm working in a building where peanuts are banned...in this very day and age...they have no rights...and they've been banned from airplanes...sneakily replaced by pretzels or even their own cousin the almond...open prejudice and discrimination can be found on many forms of packaging..."may contain trace amounts of peanut"...Shame!...why the sudden advent of peanut allergy's?...enough!...I believe in the peanut,I believe in the great American peanut farmer,I stand with,by and for peanut butter!...(particularily Skippy chunky)...Viva Jimmy Carter!

Ha, the first time I went grocery shopping here in the UK I almost pissed myself laughing at Mr Brain's Pork Faggots. I went back the next day with a camera to take a photo.

Well damn

Contaminated peanuts found before outbreak, still distributed.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090130/ap_on_go_ot/med_salmonella_outbreak_41

WASHINGTON – Weeks before the earliest signs of a national salmonella outbreak that now has been traced to peanuts from a Georgia processing plant, peanuts exported by the same company were found to be contaminated and were returned to the United States, The Associated Press has learned.

The rejected shipment — coming over the U.S. border across a bridge between New York and Canada — was logged by the Food and Drug Administration but never was tested by federal inspectors, according to the government's own records.

Looks like someone should be charged with manslaughter.
