we've done this before, and i know some of you girls have very good advice.
im getting sick of just growing out my hair. so im gonna get a little hair cut (my split ends are horrific). and im thinking of getting like blunt bangs, a la kim kardashian (http://aslcdn.celebuzz.com//bfm_gallery/2009/01/Celebs%20at%20Millions%20of%20Milkshakes/gallery_main/gallery_main-Milkshakes-Celeb-011709-10.jpg) (i just wanna look like crys :o ). what you think?
i know short bangs are bad for me, as ive had an ex point out to me after they grew out.
but long bangs?
hmmmmmmmmm.

yeap, do it. it will look pretty bad-ass on you I dare say.
worst case scenario you and bobby-pins become best friends for a few months til they grow out.

I wouldn't go blunt, I'd go natural at first. or bluntish roundish. you should have your stylist do what's best for your face shape and hair texture. if you're worried about going too short, make sure you stress that to her/him.
don't let anybody fool you into going too short. some stylists are all, "oh, I went a little shorter so you don't have to get them trimmed so soon, they'll grow out". that is total bullshit, don't stand for it! too short bangs only work on europeans and models...sometimes.

I understand going to a stylist when you are getting bangs for the first time in awhile.
what I dont understand are my friends who are scared shitless to trim their own damn bangs.
they either pay a retarded amount to go in every 3 weeks for a trim.
or they just let them get ridiculously long before being forced to go back to the hairdresser.
I do mine on an almost weekly basis, heck daily sometime if my hair is really pissing me off.

i got a 330 (EST) appointment with the hairdressa. i need a change of style, some layers, and about 4 inches of shitty hair to let go of. i need a professional. when i attempt these things by myself, the results are UGLY. but i would trim my own bangs if i got them and i liked them. i dont have the money to be at the salon every other week. :-P

do it do it do it!
I really liked having the straight bangs and I might do it again after growing mine out completely (I have to do things in cycles, I get too bored haha).
But make sure you go to a good stylist! Also, I think the kind of bangs Kim has in that photo are the best look... that's what I did (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3146/2619436504_f13f772f7e_b.jpg). I think it's a bit more flattering vs extremely straight edged bangs.
Also, take photos with you when you get it done! It will be helpful since "straight bangs" of "long straight bangs" can mean a variety of things, oddly enough.

SECONDED!
If your stylist is awesome, they will give free bang trims in between haircuts.

^exactly! i never knew people had to pay for a bang trim!
i <3 mine and i have yet to think about getting them cut differently.
and those kim k bangs are not blunt! they're textured! blunt is like betty page bangs.

my hairdresser didnt wanna give me bangs. he said they usually end up looking silly. but he compromised with me, and i got little wispy bangs.
and i lost so much hair! more than 6 inches! i am sad. i like my long hair. now it's gone. :(

how on earth are they silly? your hairdresser is an asshole. also did you want shorter hair? if not, murder him.

well, i think he meant silly on me. im starting to get the hint...
i had really bad split ends because the bottoms were all bleached out for the past 3 years and DRYYYYY. so i understand that he cut more than i expected. i didnt tell him how much to cut, just to get rid of the split ends.
i didnt really this this visit to the hairdresser. he's usually less... touchy. i felt kinda violated today. i dont know. im not sure i can chalk this up to a positive cut experience. and to top it off, im left feeling kinda icky for various reason.

i never let anyone on my hair but myself when it comes to cutting and dying

I like it, but I really think you should still try the textured bangs! You were willing to go for it, right? Why not just get it done still :)
You might want to look in to another stylist considering this one doesn't seem to be receptive to what you want. I've done that before and the new stylist gave me a free bang trim in hopes that I'd come back to them for my next haircut. Other places give them as cheap as $10.
I like the overall length though. Your hair will grow back and it looks really healthy and shiny (y)

oh dear, pauli, it doesn't look bad, but I wish I could give you a haircut myself because I could make it look fabulous. I think at this point you need some real bangs, I don't even know what that is that he gave you.
I think something like this would look nice on you: http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/893/bangs2hq3.jpg
longish bangs, with face-framing layers that highlight your cheekbones, but still keeping the length.
I would say you should go back and demand a re-cut for free...but it seems like you had a bad experience, so maybe just go to someone else. maybe try to go to aveda? http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7111409/new_york_ny/aveda_institute.html
getting your hair cut by a student is kind of scary, but it's cheap and they have supervising stylists and would be more apt to do something more current. the aveda institute is great, and trains their students really well. otherwise, try toni & guy, or a stylist who was trained at toni & guy, they are fucking phenomenal. the toni & guy salon in NYC also does advanced academy courses, but I can't tell if they have discounted rates for getting your hair cut by students.
or, as my mom (a talented former hair stylist and instructor who taught me all I know about hair) says, find somebody on the street who has hair similar in texture to yours, in a style you like, and ask them who they go to.
also, it takes time to get used to bangs, and time to get your hair to fall forward in a natural way if you haven't had them. when I first got bangs, I looked like joey ramone. in a bad way.

thanks for the advice guys! i took a scissor to my hair and cut a little more bang. not much more though, i dont trust myself with the scissors. filled it up a little bit.
i decided to let it be for a week or two, and go to another place to trim/get more bangs. im definately considering the aveda institute (thanks dorothy for the suggestion!).
i dont know why but this haircut has been more thought about than any other before. i think it's cause i just spent so much time just growing out my hair. and even though it's super short compared to what it was, im very happy to have shiny, healthy-looking hair, as opposed to nice long hair with straw tips. :-P
i really need to break myself of that random bleaching/dyeing/rebleaching/redye it brown habit i have.
