I had it 6+ years ago. Many of my friends have had it done, too. I have no close friends that have had anything but positive results. I've heard horror stories, though.
I researched the doctor in my town who had performed many surgeries and didn't worry about price -- they're all about the same, anyway.

i had it about 5 years ago. i used to work for an ophthalmologist who performed these surgeries all the time. i trusted him completely. my only remaining complaint, which they warned me about before hand, was that i may be slightly over corrected, and i would need to use light readers if i read for a long time. the new lasik technology is supposed to make that less likely.
my eyes were a little dry for about a year, and i experienced a little bit of light sensitivity at night. but otherwise... perfect vision.
it doesn't hurt, i don't remember there being any pain. it's a trippy thing, they numb your eyes and shine a laser into it. but the entire thing is over in like 20-30 mins. you sleep for day, and then you get up the next morning and you can see almost perfectly.

not at all. your eye is taped open so you can't blink and held in place with funny little thing. since your eye is numb, you sort of feel something, but you really dont. you have to look at a red light. ummm...it's over before you know it.

my boyfriend got it for a graduation present (college). He said it was the best gift he's ever received.
The only thing that he said was iffy is when they give you a shot literally in the eye. It was a shot of silicon to make sure he would tear up afterward. I can imagine that can get a little scary. Though he added they drugged him up before giving him the shot (some anti-anxiety pills) so I guess it worked out okay.

Yeah, they gave me valium beforehand and I'm glad I took it. I almost turned it down. I had it done with the razor where they actually cut a flap in your cornea. It was very wierd. I am not normally squeamish but I was about 2 minutes away from a total freakout. They gave me a stuffed animal to squeeze and I totally needed it.
Anyway, once it was done it was the best thing ever. I healed quickly and have had little to no regression in results. I have some altered night vision now, stars and halos and whatnot but I wouldn't undo it for the world. Its big business these days so your consultations will probably be a little used car salesmany.
