Seriously, its hot as fuck. Right now its 1:53AM and its still 94 degrees outside.

Forecast for the next few days -
Wed - 108
Thurs - 106
Fri - 106
Sat - 100
Sun - 99

The heat here is unlike anywhere else, because we don't have an ozone layer above us it feels like the sun is about 50 feet above your head cooking your skin as soon as you get out in the sun. Seriously, stay in the sun for longer than about 4 mins and your burned to a crisp. Friends from the UK and US who have visited cannot believe the ferocity.

And all these days I'm working, driving around all day wearing black pants and a long sleeved shirt. All I wanna do is visit a friend with a pool.

Don't stoop to their level and use farenheit. Please, we had the French Revolution for a reason.

Also, we do have an ozone directly above us, it's just that it's not very strong, and the hole itself is dangerously close. Which is why in Tasmania you can get a sunburn on a rainy day.

I'm actually envious, over here we spend a months wage in one go to be somewhere like that for two weeks.

Yours faithfully

They now reckon it will get to 46 (115)

It really is hot as balls now. fuckin work. I hate work. Sitting in a hot fuckin car all day. This sucks. Sucks balls.

Yes, it's damn hot. 43 in Melbourne today, and hotter tomorrow. My housemate and I went to the beach after work today, stayed in the water till 9.30... total bliss. I just need a friend with a pool.

My house retains the heat if it sticks around for a few days...so this weekend is going to be sticky, yuck. The best time of day is 6am when I go for my run - before the sun is up and the wind is still cool. Worth every second of lost sleep!

Well it's quite nice down here at the moment. I wore a jumper for a little while. It's nice. It was 26 today. A little too hot for me. Oh.

Hahahaha. I actually laughed pretty hard at that. I don't care what you North Islanders think of me, I enjoy the weather here.

Sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold.... but... uh... I guess it's better than the mainland at least : /

mikizee

Yep, it reached 45.7 in the city today. (114.3). In one suburb north of the city (where I happened to be working) it got up to 49.2. (120.6).

It was so hot I felt like I was gunna pass out, even in the short distance it takes to walk from my car to inside a hotel. I felt weird all day.

Updated forecast for next few days -

thurs - 45 (113)
fri - 41 (106)
sat - 40 (104)
sun - 40 (104)
mon - 39 (102)
tues - a refreshing 38. (100).

FUCK. THIS. SHIT.

all you australian assholes are lucky. you'd cry tears of nostalgia if you had to put up with too cold/wet rather than too hot.

when i was in australia it was more bright than hot. it was so bright (OZONE!) my eyes teared up all the time. this, combined with a squint, did not make me look too attractive/sane. must remember sunglasses on long road trips. you guys are conditioned to put up with that brightness. us northern hemispherics are not.

26 degrees is fucking boiling! when it hits 20 in the UK everyone strips and starts complaining about the heat like they're menopausal.

mikizee
01-28-2009, 09:11 AM
Yeah, I guess it is bright. It was so bright today that I had to squint 90% closed and look directly at the ground when I walked around outside.

I can't help but think that the UK would be a cheerier place if we had better weather. Do you guys realise how hard it is to get out of bed and go to work in cold, dark pissy rainy weather?

Global warming could be beneficial for us. I'm gonna start doing my bit.

Edit. Also each year I buy a new pair of shades that get worn once and then get lost in the back of a wardrobe. Same applies to shorts.

come to my city. we're currently under a level 3 snow emergency which means unless you're in a emergency vehicle, you'll be arrested or ticketed for even being on the roads.

Fuck that, in the UK you'd be branded a pussy for not trying to get to work :D

Last month I got stranded on a hilly road a few miles away from work and my boss told me abandon the car and walk the rest of the way.

i've had bosses like that too. i've been on vacation all this week until next week so i can only imagine the amount of call offs my company is getting today. they will call employees who have already called off and tell them if they do not get to work they will be terminated. unless you were previously scheduled off, you're completely fucked.

Thats pretty harsh. My boss was quite jovial with things but with all thats going on in our company I could sense an undercurrent of actual seriousness.

It hasn't been as hot here (low 30's) but humid as fuck at 94% relative humidity, or thereabouts. Subtropical climate hot days rain in the evening getting sweaty as fuck just making breakfast in the mornings.

Heat is different everywhere though. I once worked as a brickies labourer in Alice Springs where 25 felt like 55 and so, so very dry. You'd drink half a slab everyday and not get drunk. It was fucking ridiculous.

Pres Zount

I hear you Scotty. It was around 24 today and often it felt like it was busting 28. I had to have a sit down. You non-Australian pussies don't know what we have to deal with.

Maybe I should do you guys a favour and head down there. I mean, buckets of rain have been following me around this country for three months now, so as soon as I show up you're bound to get a break. And lord knows I could use a bit of heat myself, that's why I freakin came here.

^ If you bring a cool change with you I swear I'll sleep with you. This heat is bullshit. Well, maybe not the heat, but how stupidly hot my house gets.

At 3am this morning it was a balmy 30 degrees.
At 7.30 this evening it was still 43 outside (not much different inside)

I'd sell my soul for air con right about now.

I came on here thinking i should make a thread about how ridiculously hot its been. But then I thought, no, that'd be lame.
oh well I can say its been ridiculously hot right here.
it's been ridiculously hot.
yay.
gotta say though it's annoying at times like right now, given i've got a place like rushies, and it must be about 5-7 degrees hotter in here than outside and all i can do is have a fan blow hot air in my face.

they never should have closed the roof on rod laver.
pussies (especially serena, she never would have won yesterday if the roof wasn't closed). they get paid enough to possibly/probably die of heat exhaustion.

I just knocked off work at midnight, came home and its still about 34 degrees. I'm sitting in my undies under the air con drinking a beer. And it rules.

I think I could deal with it if it actually cooled down at night. It's only going to be 35 here tomorrow, shit, practically jumper weather.

Mike Larkin just informed me that it's officially the hottest 3 consecutive days in Victorian history and it's not supposed to dip below 31 till after Thursday.

Also, the air conditioning was still broken when I got into work and all my trains were cancelled so I've been sitting and sweating in 40+ degree heat all day. Like hellojello, all I have to look forward to is a fan blowing hot air in my face when I get home. I <3 my landlords

mikizee
01-30-2009, 03:49 AM
That sucks. It reached about 43 degrees here today, and shit is all breakin down all over the place. Train lines have buckled, (http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,24975204-5006301,00.html) there have been blackouts all over the city. I was in our major shopping mall today and the power was going on and off the whole time. Even everyone's air con is breaking down. And our air con is industrial strength, man.

Basically the whole city has pretty much ground to a halt. I'm glad I'm not at the Big Day Out festival today, it would be unbearable.

40 plus temps for the next 6 days at least. Welcome to hell.

It was in the paper today that 22 people have died because of the heat this last 6 days.

And I just received this text -

'For urgent assistance phone 000. Do not reply to this message. IMPORTANT S.A. GOVERNMENT HEAT HEALTH WARNING - Heat stress can kill; stay cool; stay inside; drink plenty of water; check the safety of vulnerable neighbours; listen to your radio.'

Shits gettin serious, son.

another 40 degree day tomorrow.
