ooooooooooh man I hope this is true, if so we can only expect all the major releases to be re released containing little goddies with them. Check beastiemania cover page :D
2009 is becoming the year of the beastie with 3 expected releases.

We're unsure if this new rumour is going be a bootleg or a legitimate release, hell we don't even know if it's going to come to fruition or not, but here we go...
Apparently on the 10th of March, Check Your Head is to be reissued as a deluxe edition. It will be expanded with a second disc of B-sides and Live tracks, remixes, and "original original versions". The album will be released in LP form (180g, 2LP, gatefold), and CD (2CD, 8-panel ecopak with fold-out poster and lyric sheet).
It sounds surprisingly like the new Paul's Boutique reissue, so either some sites are getting confused, or Capitol think it was a great idea and decided to expand on it.

that is the exact description of the PB re-issue.

my money is on March 10 being the official release date for PB20

camo

Play.com has no mention of the reissue but it states that the new PB will be released 09/02/2009.

I wonder if this is correct? I can't link any CYH relevance to the march date but if it's true then we're in for a great Beastie filled year (y)(y)(y)(y)

ouch, september... ah well I'll take what I can get. With the huge fan base that the beasties still generate Capitol would be foolish not to pursue a CYH re release, or any other for that matter. I really hope it's not just a misprint, but it does seem it could be :(

Darius, play.com is a site based in the UK, and their format for dates is dd/mm/yy as opposed to our usual mm/dd/yy, so that date actually reflects Feb. 9th.

Youngremy, I agree with what you said, but I haven't seen anything so far that says that the PB reissue is going to be 2-discs (though I'd love to be wrong). Plus, "original original version" was a term used on the Jimmy James single, so I think it is referring to CYH. Just my 2 cents.

I was wondering about this yesterday because I noticed that both Best Buy (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9216608&st=check+your+head&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1948685) and Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/CHECK-YOUR-HEAD-2-CD-SET/dp/B001Q8FSRK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233171167&sr=1-2) had a 3/10/09 release date for CYH, but neither website said much about it...either way, it sounds like good stuff (y)

There is no White House album.

It never happened. Read 33 1/3 Paul's Boutique by Dan LeRoy.

About The White House Record:

The group remained convinced the project was a sham. "You wanna know where the project is?" Mike D asked Melody Maker's Ted Mico. "It's up here in Russell's head."

Leyla Turkkan, who remains a close friend of Simmons, concurs, calling the alleged collection "bullshit. That wasn't true."

How awesome would it be if the PB re-issue had these specs and therefore included a bonus disc of alternate takes, b-sides and live tracks (*cough* country club)?

Pretty awesome, is how awesome.

RobMoney$

A lot of bands have released remastered anniversery editions of classic albums.
Hell, U2 has done it on every album from Joshua Tree on back.
Sometimes with as many bonus tracks as are on the original album.
Beasties certainly have enough unreleased tracks from each era to do something similar.
I wouldn't expect it to be anything the hardcore fan hasn't already heard before though.

When Jimmy James was released as a single back in 1992, it included an "original original version" of it. Hopefully, something other than that will be included on the CYH reissue.

This will likely be the tracklist for the second disc of the CYH reissue. I can confirm that it all fits on a single disc...

01 Dub The Mic (Instrumental)
02 Drunken Praying Mantis Style
03 Pass The Mic (Pt. 2, Skills To Pay The Bills)
04 Netty's Girl
05 The Skills To Pay The Bills (Original Version)
06 So What'cha Want (Single Version)
07 So What'cha Want (Soul Assassins Remix Version)
08 So What'cha Want (Butt Naked Version)
09 Groove Holmes (Live vs. The Biz)
10 So What'cha Want (All The Way Live Freestyle Version)
11 Jimmy James (Single Version)
12 Boomin' Granny
13 Jimmy James (Original Original Version)
14 Drinkin' Wine
15 Stand Together (Live At French's Tavern, Sydney, Australia)
16 Finger Lickin' Good (Government Cheese Remix)
17 Gratitude (Live At Budokan)
18 Honky Rink

Maybe for the sake of adding actual rarities, Capital will include audio versions of the live CYH-era tracks on the Sabotage VHS/DVD?

camo
01-29-2009, 10:57 AM
where are you pulling this from? Thin air?

ellwood_court
01-29-2009, 11:33 AM
I am "pulling this" from my knowledge of existing material from the CYH era. My list includes all the b-sides to the Pass The Mic, So What'cha Want, Jimmy James, and Gratitude singles.

I think it's unrealistic for fans to expect truly rare or never-heard-before tracks. Capital is probably just looking for a quick buck off of previously-released, but now out-of-print material. Everyone fantasizes that there is mind-blowing music collecting dust in a vault somewhere. In reality, if the songs left on the shelf were really any good, they would have been released back in the day.

camo
01-29-2009, 11:37 AM
Yeah I doubt that there will be any new old stuff but I'm hoping that they suprise us all with something unexpected. I mean they did say that CYH was constructed from 100s of hours of jamming so you gotta expect that there's something that didn't make the cut that they can put on cd 2.

darius
01-29-2009, 11:45 AM
whatever the "bonus" tracks turn out to be, I just hope they are remastered like the pauls album will be. Albeit they are musicians and musicians almost always have piles of music that doesn't surface for the general public to hear, I can't imagine a group as refined as the beasties just creating an album and then saying "ah thats good, lets wait for the next one", there is a lot of time between releases of pauls and cyh so I'm sure there is stuff left on the shelf. As for it being good... think of nettys girl and boomin granny, those were anything but serious tracks and still classics in my mind. As for any of this material being released is another story - fingers crossed -

ellwood_court
01-29-2009, 12:05 PM
I'd rather have remastered versions of the old b-sides before "new" material if that means goofy stuff like "Triphammer" or Quasar songs.

Three completely unrelated comments:

1) I read somewhere (which makes total sense) that we're gonna be seeing alot of reissues this year because the record industry is making a final ploy remastering old classic recordings to sell cds before they're completely insignificant.

2) Darius, "Netty's Girl", a classic? I dunno about that. Fun, but classic?

3) Camo, is that Kid Chameleon on your avatar? Took me forever to put my finger on that one. Am I right?

Wow, that's pretty impressive...$200 bucks for a record that doesn't exist.

If that's the going rate on eBay for albums that people wish existed (but don't and never will), I'm going to start naming fictitious records, designing the covers, and selling them in empty jewel cases.

I wonder if the band was actually involved with the CYH remaster and release or this is Capitol's way of riding the coattails of the Paul's Boutique release, which the band actually cared about and worked on directly? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Not to belabor the point, but why are they able to give us CYH b-sides but couldn't do it for Paul's Boutique?

Oh, I got it.

There will be 2 discs.

The Last.FM has the tracks up by Tracklist numbers.

So...

1. Dub The Mic (Instrumental) (2009 Digital Remaster)
1. Jimmy James (2009 Digital Remaster)
2. Pass The Mic (Pt. 2, Skills To Pay The Bills) (2009 Digital Remaster)
2. Funky Boss (2009 Digital Remaster)

Instead of breaking it by discs, they lumped them together by Tracklist numbers.

Call me, Sherlock Holmes.

And, not to start a beef with Rob again... because it's nice to walk around my neighborhood without having the anxiety of knowing if he is going to bum rush me and take me out (kidding, seriously).

I have all these songs. But, if they are going to be Remastered and put together in one set. I don't mind upgrading for $19.98 (Amazon.com Price) on March 24, 2009.

If they sound like the last Remaster... I'm down.

[QUOTE]How about a poster? Would that be worth anything to ya?
I'm glad people are starting to see the same issue I had with the PB remaster.[QUOTE]

Nah, the poster set is nice but not worth the cash ($80.00 ...sheesh), even if it does contain the shirt and digital download. to me personally, I'm down with the remaster though, that's as far as my cash will go.

Exactly. Spend what your budget can afford. I really wanted the PB poster in the recording studio... so it was worth dishing out the cash. Otherwise, I would of just bought the CD and Vinyl.

My only concern is how I'm gonna frame this big ass poster!

That's the perfect place for such a poster, I'd love to see a pic of the finished frame if you decide to do so.

I hope this happens. The extra disc would be cool, and it's nice that they'll be allowed to do it with everything being cleared this time, unlike with the Paul's Boutique potential extra tracks. Fold out pack again I reckon, would definitely buy it.

Primarily for the sound. I went on a run last night with PB on the headphones and I can actually hear the fucking thing properly. I'm not a huge fan of having to crank up PB, CYH and IC tunes through my speakers to when they come on shuffle, but then the sound quality isn't always good enough to handle it. A crystal clear, loud and booming Sure Shot for instance come an IC-remaster...sorta like when you watch the Critereon DVD through 5.1 - it just sounds better.

The production on these albums is immense so with improved sound/a remaster that can only be a good thing, in my mind worth parting your money for. However, if they're just confusingly being re-issued without a re-master then I don't see the point, extra disc and cool fold-out packaging or not.

Yeah, I was being facetious.

I had made an issue of the $130 package being a bit of a rip in another thread.
Peeps took offense.
It was anarchy.

It was anarchy.

Actually, anarchy regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society.

I would of described it a chaos. A state of utter confusion or disorder.

Or maybe bedlam, disarray, discord, disorder, free-for-all, pandemonium or turmoil.

Definitely not anarchy though.

Your description of events is almost the exact definition of the word "anarchy".

an⋅ar⋅chy
[AN-er-kee]
–noun

1.a state of society without government or law.

2.political and social disorder due to the absence of governmental control: The death of the king was followed by a year of anarchy.

3.a theory that regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society.

4.confusion; chaos; disorder: Intellectual and moral anarchy followed his loss of faith.

Once again I ask you... when or where did you go against a "state of society without government or law", "political and social disorder due to the absence of governmental control"?

Or have a "theory that regards the absence of all direct or coercive government as a political ideal and that proposes the cooperative and voluntary association of individuals and groups as the principal mode of organized society"?

Just wondering? I thought you were just bitching about the PB Remaster. I didn't read the part where you were going against the government.

Anarchy is going against a government or political establishment... Not a band's Remastered Album Set on a messageboard.

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with how to properly use a dictionary?

"political and social disorder due to the absence of governmental control" is not the only definition of "anarchy".

Random House Dictionary also defines anarchy as confusion, chaos, disorder, which is exactly what you described.

{edit} also, the "governing body" of General Beastie at the time was blind loyalism to the Beasties, which you were one of. One can make an argument that I was creating anarchy against that majority, or "governing body" by proclaiming that the PB20 packages were a clear money grab.

Your correct. I am unfamiliar how to use a dictionary. My fault.

I don't really want to rehash a messageboard battle with you again. It's boring and a waste of time.

So for all intents and purposes for the future... RobMoney$ is 100% correct on everything past, present and future.

I'm going to go get a beer and have a nice night.

Cheers!

nice find. 33 1/3 says that the majority of all the objects and shit you see outside the fictional "paul' boutique" on the album were all brought by the bboys themselves. they showed up to the shoot with boxes of stuff, unbeknownst to the photographer.

sidenote: that record on the far left, the turquoise one with the african american gentleman on the cover, is Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic" LP, in case anyone was wondering. Now that' some funky ass shit. Bitchin' stuff. Pick it up. I don't recognize any of those other records though. Anyone else know what those other LPs are?

i'm guessing those shoes are from the clothing they got from the house they were staying at... they talk about the woman on the commentary for PB... it's her name the "(womans name) collection"

edit: 'tis the "Mrs. Grasshoff Collection"

I just received this from eil.com

CHECK YOUR HEAD

2009 issue UK Expanded Edition 2-CD album set

Originally released in 1992, 'Check Your Head' has now been digitally remastered for the first time by the band.

Added to the original album is a bonus disc of b-sides and rarities [16 extra tracks in total!] and the original artwork has been restored in an 8 panel eco-friendly package with fold-out poster / lyric sheet.

I got both the UK (actually has EU on the packaging) CD & Vinyl from eil for the PB remaster. The always have their shit straight. You pay through the nose, but you ALWAYS get what you order.

Xavier,

Do you know who won this? I was bidder 1. :(

At what point will there be an official acknowledgment about the CYH reissue? If the release date is 3/10, that's only two weeks from now.

A press release confirming whether or not the b-sides are remastered would be nice. It's the least Capital can do if they expect us to rebuy the album and b-sides all over again.
