Nasty Little Man PR Press Release
BEASTIE BOYS PAUL'S BOUTIQUE
REMASTERED 20th ANNIVERSARY EDITION PRE-RELEASE AVAILABLE TODAY EXCLUSIVELY AT http://www.beastieboys.com
PHYSICAL RELEASE FEBRUARY 10
BEASTIE BOYS CONFIRMED TO APPEAR AT 2009 BONNAROO MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL
The first and most probably only hip hop record ever to be likened to Abbey Road, Dark Side Of The Moon and Pet Sounds, Beastie Boys' groundbreaking Paul's Boutique will celebrate its 20th birthday with a digitally remastered, visually expanded version. The 20th anniversary edition will finally see the landmark album released as its creators originally intended.
The Paul's Boutique 20th anniversary re-release will be available in a multitude of formats, the first being a digital download available exclusively as of today at http://www.beastieboys.com (which has been completely overhauled and re-designed to commemorate the re-release). The basic 320kbps digital download with 3D interactive digital artwork will be available immediately upon order.
Pre-Orders also open today at beastieboys.com for the February 10 release of the following configurations:
Deluxe Digital Download
Digital album download in choice of format (320kbps MP3, FLAC, Apple Lossless), 5 Beasties music videos, video commentary, 3D interactive digital album art
CD + Digital Download
8 panel ecopack CD + Digital Download
Vinyl + Digital Download
8 panel, 180g vinyl + Digital Download
T-Shirt Combos
Limited edition Paul's Boutique t-shirt with wraparound album art. Available with Deluxe Digital, CD, or Vinyl combo.
20th Anniversary Commemorative Pack
Includes Digital Deluxe, CD, Vinyl, T-shirt, and an 8 foot wide poster of the album art as it was originally intended to be enjoyed.
The Paul's Boutique reissue features no additional music, though a track-by-track audio commentary by the band detailing the making of the record will be available with every configuration.
Released in July 1989 to critical raves and commercial indifference, Paul's Boutique quietly spent a decade amassing sales in proportion to its reviews, ultimately selling over two million copies. More recently, Paul's Boutique's unprecedented multi-sampled musical density and brain-teasing lyrical complexity have earned the record all-time greatest accolades from the likes of TIME, THE SOURCE, ROLLING STONE, Q, PITCHFORK and many more, while classic tracks "Shake Your Rump," "Egg Man" and "Hello Brooklyn" continue to keep the crowd moving at Beastie Boys live shows.
Finally, Beastie Boys have signed on as a headliner for the 2009 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN. It will be the band's first ever appearance at Bonnaroo.

flac files are much bigger files than MP3, much more information and therefore give you better sound quality than MP3.
You won't be able to put them on your Ipod though.
I'm a vinyl nerd so IMO vinyl is the ONLY way to truly enjoy this to it's fullest.

From Dan Lerory's Paul's Boutique 33 1/3, note 32 on p.87 :
"The barnyard noises on the track have been commonly assumed to be a cow- (or sheep)-in-a-can--a toy that approximates the sound of a farm animal when turned upside down. Not so, according to Mike Simpson. "I don't wanna say where it's from, but it's basically a famous person's voice, that I tweaked in such a way that you would never know what the original source is. But it does sound exactly like a cow-in-a-can."

THATS THE EXACT CONCLUSION I JUST CAME TOO!!!!!
(sorry bout yelling at you!)
So I did the Math(of course)- the Tshirt is $25 bucks on top of the cost of the CD & Vinyl and since everything that comes in the commemorative package comes if you get either the cd or vinyl (& you can add the shirt to one or both!) that leaves the 8 ft poster making up the $62 difference in price. Just had a long "can I really rationalize that I'm gonna spend $60 bucks for a poster" conversation with my roommate.
I couldn't.
I'm still gonna get it though. Realizing that I had the perfect place for it helped.
Yay!
:)
By the way Doc- the commentary is both funny AND serious- as you would imagine. Their is some very genuine reminiscing about those times along with the expected silliness.

Thanks for finding that part of the book. I think you're right...might not be able to go with the boys here. They struggled to remember if they have ever played Hey Ladies live....Adam H. ALSO mentioned on a few of the tracks " I can't remember recording that" . That's evidence enough for me that they can't remember a damn thing from that era!

If I got the poster, I think I'd put it in my office. I like that it's just the album art without BEASTIE BOYS written all over it. So cool people would recognize it and all the other fools wouldn't.
It's a lot of money though, especially because I don't want the t-shirt.

Highly speculative the remaining cumulative memory them boys have of those days!
No sweat on the quote- reading it for the 1st time- almost done, I'm taking my sweetass time!- had no idea today would turn into an international Beastie holiday! My favorite part of it thus far, right after procuring an 8 ft poster and playing an epic ping-pong game against MCA, was when I had to end a work call by saying "I was about to get back to you when something important came up- I'll call you later with that (important detail)".

Yup.
Theres a video version of the same commentary that came with the deluxe editions that has like an extra 10 minutes where they goof around, talk about the cover photo and why they think PB was not as commercially successful as LTI (which leads to a great exchange where they decide that they were as big as Peter Gabriel but not as big as Hammer!).
Very exciting times!
Also the digital album art with pauls boutique "how it was meant to be seen" sounds pretty tempting. Decisions Decisions

I'm willing to bet that the album art "the way it was meant to be" is just that you can look at it 360 without any break in the picture, like if you wrapped the 8 panel gatefold around your head and turned around in circles to look at it.

If I don't hear from them in a few days, they can take it up with my credit card when I get credited for unsent merchandise. I doubt I'll order directly from the Beastie site again after this complete lack of customer service.

Vinyl or Cd will ship on or before 2/10/09
Yes, I understand that it SHOULD have shipped by now. But if that had happened, I would have already received it. There's nowhere in the continental United States from which mailing a record would take more than 8 days to reach me. I'm still more frustrated than anything by Topspin's absolute lack of response to my multiple e-mails. No more online ordering for me.
PS I'm going to be even more pissed off if the vinyl that eventually arrives is banged up as some people have described.

I'm not certain, but I think topspin just handles the digital downloads... I don't think they are distributing the vinyl and such.
