He does. Hmm.
Wow, he really went off. I get the impression the Bale just takes himself super seriously. I hope he doesn't turn into the next Tom Cruise.

ah, he's got a hot temper, but that movie shoot was apparently really dark (in mood/tone) and I'm sure grueling to work on. he was over the line, but this had also happened a few days after he was arrested for yelling at his mother. so, I'm sure his stress level was through the roof.
I don't know, I'm not saying I want to run out and be best friends with the guy, but people get upset sometimes.
I mean, if somebody recorded me and my coworker at work yesterday, they'd find it unpleasant. lots of "you fucking piece of shit, cock sucking god damn it! you fuck! you fucking fuck! I HATE YOU!" it was directed toward inanimate objects not people though. although the coworker and I did get into a bit of a tiff at one point. because I was acting like a lunatic about font size and the placement of text.
no excuse for that AT ALL, what a cock. Put that into everyday context, ie two guys working in a supermarket and you've got one seriously unhinged bell end.
YoungRemy
02-03-2009, 02:04 PM

one douchebag in the frame ruins days of work.
I highly doubt that was the case here, or in most films. million dollar a day budgets don't allow a setting where that can happen.
b i o n i c
02-03-2009, 02:13 PM
yes, this guy walked into the frame while he was looking at a light.
id say he had reason to be pissed off, but making it that big of a deal was unnecessary. ill still see his movies, i dont care
i find it way more interesting that while he's shouting at the guy, his accent drifts from british to american. i know hes weird about it, i dont get it in this case
but it's not everyday context. it's million dollar a day budgets and shots that take endless hours to set up and execute.
one douchebag in the frame ruins days of work.
It's not like he (Bale) puts the sets up. Actors just stroll in, do there bit and leave. Still doesn't mean he can sound off like that, I'm sure the guy didn't do it on purpose. I mean who wants to lose their job these days? It's the big man little man syndrome that he's flexing on that's the most appalling part.
Oh and for that budget they could just CGI the douchebag out (y)

that probably has more to do with the effort it takes to get psyched up for a scene, thats understandable

oh he's a Brit not an Aussie. woops!
million schmillion, the dude's a serious method actor and I wouldn't want to upset a dude like that if I was the DP of the film...
where was the director? he said he didn't see it...
McG is a hack
Dorothy Wood
02-03-2009, 02:18 PM
ya, and it seems like if you listen to the whole thing, the guy had done it before. also you can't hear the DP's audio so you don't know what he's saying.
it's not like it was some lackey making a stupid mistake, the DP should know better than to walk onto a scene.
it's not a nice thing to listen to, but I don't think he's a rotten guy.
I mean, is this how things are going to be now? you can't do or say anything without it being recorded and broadcast to the world? is it going to make us better-behaved or will it drive everyone to repress their emotions and actions so as not to get "caught" until we all just explode in a murderous rage and destroy the world because nobody can take it anymore?

At least an actor could act like they have some wits about them.
I worked in production for years and delt with people like that. Hated it. One person did that too me and I told him when he is ready to behave and act like an adult, I'd be more than happy to talk to him, until then, later. Don't yell at me like a baby.
There is never an excuse to blow up like that. If someone at your work did that, there would be serious consequences. Boo hoo with the long days on the set in your trailer, green M&M's, and huge paycheck. Producers, Directors, and Actors think they can get away with it because they can. You never see Grips, Best Boys, Boom Ops, etc. going nutso and they have long days on the set as well. Hollywood lets bad attitudes thrive as part of doing business and its lame. Could be a different story if they were saving lifes.
And if your roles have you stressing out, get help. You can afford it instead of taking it out on your Mom.

I'm not excusing his behavior, I'm just saying it happens and I don't think it's that big of a deal.
actors are weird and emotional people who freak out all the time (at least the ones I know, and I don't know many, like 2, and my friend's sister was a personal assistant for an actress in LA, so I've heard a lot of stories), it's just not usually recorded.
maybe it doesn't seem that bad because I've worked at places where people flip out and scream at each other during high stress situations, then calm down and work it out. hopefully there was a working it out part afterwards that just didn't happen to be recorded. meh.

Kinda weird the the DP of all people would be wandering around in shot. Were they actually rolling? Wouldn't the DP be behind the camera if they were?
But yeah, CB is a fuckstick. He needs Russell Crowe to sort him out.
bale's tantrum occurred a few days after his mother filed assault charges against him right before the london premiere of the dark knight. the police eventually dropped the charges of verbal assault (yes, you can be charged with verbal assault in england). he does not get along with his mother and sister, who were very jealous that he chose to live with his father as a boy, and apparently show up in his life from time to time to make requests for money. also, bale was and still is suffering from severe depression due to the death of his close friend heath ledger.
regardless, that's no excuse whatsoever to behave like a cliche prima donna douche and pull an embarrasing tantrum. i understand that the guy who walked into the shot was a complete and utter moron, but he could have and should have handled the situation like a professional and an adult.
still, this incident is quite the opposite of bale's nature who has a solid reputation as a very low key, private family man who avoids all the paparazzi, hollywood glam, high life et al.
i'll still watch bale's movies as i'm a fan, but i hope he acts and issues an apology. the last thing the dude needs is to be known as another russell crowe.

I heard Shane Hurlbert (the director of photography for TS) was doing this repeatedly in the middle of the film's most emotionally intense scene. I don't think he was doing it on purpose but if you fuck up by walking around and playing with lights, you deserve to be called on it. With that said, Bale's behavior is absolutely unacceptable. He calls Hurlbert 'unprofessional' at one point during the tirade. I think Bale needs to look in the mirror and ask himself if talking down to someone like that is considered professional. Major douchebaggery on his part.

i'm not defending the guy at all, his behaviour is inexcusable, but it is disappointing that bale did this considering he has a history of being the furthest thing from a spoiled hollywood prima donna.

apparently the same thing happened to nicholas cage a few years ago and he publicly apologized, so hopefully bale will do the same.
WTF does anyone care if he apologizes publicly or not?
he would be taking direct responsiblity for his actions and poor behaviour. perhaps you don't care, but a lot of other people do care when better judgment is exercised.
Hey folks, Harry here... I'm getting slammed with assloads of people angry at me for not posting the Bale explosion from the set of McG's TERMINATOR: SALVATION. Well, first off - there's a real simple reason. It isn't news. And it certainly isn't cool news. It is a moment in a man's life taken completely out of context and most likely leaked to personally embarrass Christian Bale.
Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking... There's no excuse for a temper tantrum like that to ever occur and if you are going to act that way, you deserve to be embarrassed by your own actions.
Except, you want to hear the REALITY behind that clip?
I know this because I happen to be somewhere where someone that was there that day and for the shoot is. And this person isn't a publicist, nor are they invested in Bale's career. They're just someone that thinks it is absolute bullshit that this moment in Bale's life is being aired and that the real story should get out there.
The DP on TERMINATOR SALVATION, Shane Hurlbut, is a apparently a light tweaker. He's a fairly young DP and likes to fiddle with his lights on set during action, which is a big "NO NO" on most productions unless worked out in advance with performers. But apparently Shane was a pretty unrepentant light tweaker.
The scene in question, was a very emotional and tough scene between Christian Bale and Bryce Howard. A scene that required soul bearing and a deep level of immersive concentration. The sort of scene where everyone on set knows not to get in anyone's eye lines, and definitely not to move lights around while FILMING. You lock that shit down before the scene starts.
Bale had indeed warned the DP on multiple occasions about messing with lights while the cameras were rolling, and Bale was in the midst of a painful scene with Bryce, what was described to me as being the emotional center of the film and his character for the film.
Now, the reason I know all of this is because the person that was there, felt that it should be made perfectly clear that Christian Bale was the utmost gentleman and cool guy on set. And the DP really was doing something that professional DPs with experience just don't do. Not during a performance.
You don't need me to give you a link, it's all over the internet, I just felt that you should know what really went down - and that this particular outburst did indeed modify the DP's behavior - and for future DPs. Fuck with the lights before and after your actors are acting. Not during.
I guess there's more than one side to the story.
beastieangel01
02-04-2009, 01:26 PM
I'm sure he's not the first actor in history to have an outburst. We all snap from time to time, especially if we are tired and stressed. Especially if the mistake occurring that is disrupting us occurs several times. Lots of shitty factors = losing it. Although I personally think he did go a little overboard, but again, name someone that has never, ever gone overboard when they got upset?
It sucks that someone put it out there for everyone to hear though. I'm sure we've all had times where we snapped and luckily none of us are famous enough to have someone record it then share it on the net.

obviously he's not an elected official or community role model or whatever. yes, he is an actor who had a little freakout. you're right, this has nothing to do with you, me or anybody, generally speaking. however, this is a message board where we're all allowed to pontificate and voice our opinions on whatever the subject might be. and again, you're missing the point. bale issuing a public apology would be taking direct responsiblity for his dumbass actions. it would be acting much more like a professional and an adult. and i'm a fan, but if you're not, then don't bother.

TMZ refers to the "thirty mile zone"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Mile_Zone
and it's a vicious and relentless tabloid show/website that reports on nonsense.
as for why some people are freaking out, I just think it's a little unsettling to see someone's (anyone's) name being dragged through the mud based on a situation nobody could really understand unless they were there.
he's a human being. yes, he's rich and famous and apparently should just be happy all the time and have no personal problems...but that doesn't really happen. he's famous for his talent, not his proclivity for partying and being a scenester. I don't think he's ever once fallen out of a cab with no panties on.
I just thing it's wrong, trying to ruin a person's reputation over a temper tantrum. in my last job a few years ago, the owner's son came to me with a list of things I'd done wrong (75% of which were false, he just hated me because he couldn't manipulate me), and he told me that he was suspending me for 2 weeks (with half pay). and I launched into a verbal tirade and quit on the spot. the thing is, if there was no context, and only I had been recorded, I'd have sounded like a psycho. I went overboard, indeed, but I was extremely angry and frustrated. I told the dude he was a child, ridiculous and pathetic, and didn't know what real life was. might have told him to go home to his mommy...told him to "fuck off", etc.
and, later the actual owner contacted me and apologized for his son. offered me a week and a half's full pay and all the commission I would've gotten if I had finished the month.
I'm just saying, people get angry and yell sometimes. there's usually a reason.
