My amazon vinyl pre-order is here! I was suprized that it is only on one disc, unlike the two disc re-issue about 10 years ago. Also, the "commentary download card" just says to come to beastieboys.com and download it for free. Nothing special there. I am more interested in the "Video Commentary" in the digital package. Is it just the same commentary on the videos from the Criterion DVD? Is it a video version of the audio commentary? Either way, I'll be back in 54 minutes, got a new record to play :)

How big is the poster that comes with it, and what is on it?

How does it sound?

I'm hoping that my local store will be getting copies of the vinyl. Otherwise, I'll have to get it online.

NO POSTER :( Just a picture sleeve.

Update: After side one, it sounds great. Whoever pressed the record sure did it well. No harsh or scratchy "ES" sounds in words like some of my other vinyls do. This is going to be one nice needle drop.

Update 2: Both sides sound great. Now I think it's time for some Shadrach and Love American Style. Too bad the B-Sides are not available like this.

I wonder if in 20 years when someone buys a sealed copy of this re-release the included digital download card will still work. I mean if the download files will still be available here.

not sure if you have the og original vinyl from 89.. but does it mimic that exactly? like same inner sleeve, same "Beastie Boys Records" rainbow label etc. Or does it have any new photos?
Thanks!

Exact Replica it looks like. Nothing new or different that I can tell. There is also no words on the front like it looked like there was on the Amazon.com picture (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B001NJY66Q/sr=8-1/qid=1233790975/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=5174&s=music&qid=1233790975&sr=8-1). Just a little sticker saying:

Beastie Boys
Paul's Boutique
20th Anniversary Edition
Digitally Remastered
Includes Digital Download Card To Access
Free Bonus Audio Band Commentary

Also, there is no "Parental Advisory" sticker. Maybe the fold out poster is for the CD version only?

Got mine last night. The packaging is very nice looking, but both sides of the inner sleeve came ripped and the first side of the record is badly scuffed up and looks like someone poured water or something on it.

I'm going to try to return it for another copy in a few days, but has anyone elses come messed up like this?

my inner sleeve was ripped too and the shrink wrap job was horrible. (i bought two LP copies. i'm using one copy for a fund raiser, so i wanted it to look crisp. i hope it's innards are okay.) :( the record itself is in good shape. i was also hoping it was going to be matte finished (no gloss coating), but i guess that wouldn't look like the original.

I bought mine at a local record store and the sleeves were in perfect condition. I haven't played the LP yet. I haven't been in the mood. I expect it will sound pretty good because my old LP is nearly 20 years old. :p

Yeah, I took mine back to the store for another. The inner sleeve on that was also ripped but the record is in slightly better condition. They only got 4 copies in, so I'm just going to hold onto it because I don't want to keep other people from getting it.

I used an Amazon giftcard to buy a copy from them for free. If that comes in better condition, I think I may just send the record store copy back for a perfect one, as unethical as it is.

So if I buy mine at the local record store I get the digital download card for the remastered versions of all the songs, right? There's no difference from buying it from the website?

The vinyl LP doesn't come with free mp3s. It's just a vinyl LP. There's a card inside that I think directs you to this website to get the free commentary.

Maybe someone else had a different experience, but I sure didn't find a secret code or anything in my vinyl album.

sounds like a good move to me. i've been to all the record shops in ATL and i can't find a copy where the shrink wrap doesn't look like someone bought it, opened it and then re-shrink wrapped it. wassup with the shrinky-dink, capitol? i just bought bruce springsteen's new one for a friend and joe satriani for myself and the wraps are perfect. makes me think i'm buying a bootleg.

I canceled my order because Amazon delayed it for three weeks! I had spent extra money for two day delivery, but since that didn't work out...

When they get more copies I'll probably reorder. For right now, I've got my record in a high-quality sleeve so that the inner sleeve doesn't get ripped more.

Careful man. You don't want to criticize anything about the Beasties around here.
You're gonna upset the U2U locals.

Just take what you can get and be grateful that the Beasties have given you something new to buy.

Nope, still employed.

But, I give up on this back and forth with Rob. Shit is getting boring. If he still wants to talk to me about it in person... we live in the same city. We can talk civil about it.

Shit is embarrassing really. Rob is cool. Life is great. The energy on the back and forth is kinda stupid.

Cheers, Rob and all Rob followers/friends.

I gotta walk my dogs in this windy ass weather.

If the shrink is all loosey-goosey and stuff that's on purpose. The tight shrink wrap can contract and cause the record inside to warp so a lot of companies are starting to use the loose stuff to prevent that.

Update: After side one, it sounds great. Whoever pressed the record sure did it well. No harsh or scratchy "ES" sounds in words like some of my other vinyls do.

Those "scratchy 'ES'" sounds are called "sibilance" due to static electricity on the record so if your new vinyl accepts a charge, it too will have that problem, age has nothing to do with it. There are many anti-static devices to clear up your other records ie; brushes and guns.

I too found the vinyl to be a bit scuffed up as well as some minor cover damage, but it plays well enough to not bother with a mail return, but certainly not the way new vinyl should come.

In terms of the pressing/remastering of the vinyl I must say I expected better. I find the 2LP 10 year re-issue a much better pressing both sonically and aesthetically on the gatefold. I wish they had given the remaster duties to Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs who do the most amazing work on vinyl, but alas here we are. I'll just wait another 10 years for this album to get the royal vinyl treatment I guess.

p.s. I still love their music (this post came out pretty negative..tough love)

Does the vinyl have the What Comes Around - Tadlock remix?

No, actually they're almost exactly the same, except the new one only has one opening for the vinyl, whereas the 10th ann. issue has two vinyl and therefore 2 openings. And the street scene picture on the new one has a glossy finish , whereas the 10th ann., has a matte. But they are both 8-panel gatefolds.

thanks for the info, didn't remember that the 10yr was 8 panel as well
