Please post here suggestions for songs that we could play for the father-daughter/mother-son dance at my wedding. Please none of the following:

Butterfly kisses
Wind Beneath My Wings
My Girl

or the like

Thanks,

The future mrs. hpdrifter

go with something not so... cheesy. i think all three of your suggestions are used at every single wedding and it causes me (and other people i know) to roll their eyes in boredom. i DJ weddings often and i see it a LOT.

chose something different. something new. maybe something that you consider your song. something maybe a bit funny or cutesy. the last wedding i went to, they danced to You Have Stolen My Heart by Dashboard Confessional and it was pretty awesome. everyone enjoyed it and it was different.

Yeah, those were ones I don't want.

Stolen and Forever Young are decent suggestions.

What a Wonderful World - Louie Armstrong was the Mother-Groom dance song at my wedding.

Not sure if it was cheesy or predictable.
Isn't that kind of the point of Wedding music though,...tradition?
Sometimes traditional, cheesy music at things like weddings is fun.

I went to a friends wedding where they had some obscure song by Radiohead for their wedding song and had the whole place looking like this guy>>>
Train Wreck

Tiny Dancer or Bennie and the Jets... early 70's Elton John is tops at family gatherings. Just the thought of a wedding makes me nauseous, they're so personalized, permanent.

My sis danced to this song (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7093598070297632145) with my dad and it seemed exactly appropriate for the day. After that is was rock 'n roll baby, we had the reception down at the Elks Lodge lower Queen Anne (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=301+queen+anne+ave+n,+seattle+wa&ll=47.621048,-122.356882&spn=0.004932,0.010536&t=h).

I'm going to a wedding on Saturday, and the bride loves Eurovision Song Contest, so the music's gonna be according to that.... :p

Also I've got a blind date with the groom's friend the night before, as I've got +1 on the guest list to a punk party... :o

do you have any songs or groups that you relate to your dad at all? i always thought that those dances should be chosen because of something personal, not just because its a good slow song to dance to and the lyrics talk about love or something.

my mom gets a polka from me

Not really. Thing is, I don't know my dad that well, he wasn't around a ton when I was growing up.

I am liking this Wildflowers song quite a lot.

Funny, one of the reasons I choose "What a Wonderful World" by Louie Armstrong is because it's soo short.
I wanted to get that dance done & over with ASAP.

I have a bit of contempt for my mom, so if you're in the same boat it's perfect.
