Yes, you can add contacts, favorites, join groups, share items. I didn't make the collages I have shown here. My stuff isn't as good as those.

There are a lot of crappy collages on there, lots of boring old copy cats, too. But it's easy to weed through all that. Popularity on Polyvore doesn't interest me. The featured sets and the most popular sets that you see on the main entry page, I never look at those. I just have my own personal faves like zoo music girl, who made the second and third collages I posted above.

Ms. Crafty, I find that it's useful to group things close together, and vary their proportions so you get a better overall look at everything together. But that's just my preference, you can do it however you want. I like what you did.

it's addictive because you can put together an outfit out of pretty much anything. it's like shopping without spending any money. the whole thing's a bit frustrating for me though, because I'm so picky. I could sit there and sift through a million things before I find something I really really like.

I'm pretty satisfied with my interior thing though, I will probably do more, I had more fun with that. it's like when I was a kid and playing with barbies, I spent way more time thinking about their house, than their interactions or outfits.

Dorothy were you having trouble with the backgrounds? I sometimes have problems too. Sometimes I just have to click out of it and come back in a second. At least it saves what you do when you leave each time. Sometimes you have to select an item and repeatedly click Bgnd to get it out of the way. And sometimes while I'm Bgnd-ing an item in my set, other things will switch around. I'm not really sure why it does that. Also, if you zoom out sometimes that helps to move things around. Sorry if you've figured this stuff out already, it took me a long time to get the hang of it all.

yeah, I got a better handle on it, thanks. it seems like once you've got mostly everything you want in there, if you save it as a draft and go back in to edit, it's easier. I think with the background thing, it moves it back behind stuff in the order in which you put it on.

the site is super cool, but could definitely be improved. seems like they will make improvements as time goes on and it gets more popular. I got my best friend hooked on it and she was like, "IT'S LIKE AN INTERACTIVE MAGAZINE!" and then her head exploded. (she really loves magazines).

I still don't know where the name polyvore comes from.

Have you ever checked out some of the members' blogs? Some of them are amazing in how unreal the authors seem in their photos. It's like they don't even inhabit the same universe that I do. There are adorable young women with amazing clothes and rooms and houses, they pose for cool photos in Parisian gardens, or perched atop snow-capped rocky mountains. Or even if they aren't even in their photos on the blogs, they have images of a nicer world than mine. I don't usually take much time to read the self-absorbed drivel even if it is in English. I just marvel at the way they can inhabit the physical world and make it look so imaginary and pretty and cool. I wonder if they just have a lot of money. I wonder if they are actually total weirdos, or maybe they're models and have these photos done for some cool mini universe of style that I will never be a part of. It could just be that they spend money and are self-indulgent. That's always a possibility. I'm jealous. meh

playing with this satisfies my search-and-collect urge without my having to spend any money. It's like when I was a little girl, I used to stare at doll catalogs and imagine having everything pictured there. I would imagine where I would set up the toys and how I would play with them. In the end, I didn't really need any of the toys, it was enough to just pretend to play. Especially when the flashlight burned out and I couldn't really see the pictures anymore, I could remember what they looked like and that would keep my mind happily engaged until sun-up when my chores began.

it doesn't crop. that's one of the biggest flaws. you just have to save it as a draft, then go back and edit it if you're not sure how the size is working out. then center it and zoom and save again. it's real dumb.


as for the consumerism. although none of us will probably buy the stuff we see on that site, some people will. it's a very clever marketing tool really. unless you're using your own images, most of the stuff you find through the site is connected to another site where you can buy it.

personally, I just like looking. I'm only susceptible to fast food advertising though. I always want to try a new sandwich. I usually never get to though because I don't live by any fast food places.
