i've been looking around and it's apparently been outlawed but i don't know, my gut tells me there's a way

i suppose technically the last thing i need is a gambling habit but i've been getting halfway decent at texas hold 'em lately and i feel like i could make a buck or two at some low stakes games now and then. and even if i lose, it wouldn't be any more expensive than going to a bar or hiring a hooker, which is what i'd be doing otherwise

become a bar tending gigolo and play texas hold 'em all at once, what type of education are they giving out back there in mass anyhow?

i won 1,000 fake dollars tonight so far. god i wish i could play for real money (it would probably only be like $10 if i were playing with real money but still)

Where I work we occasionally get together and play hold 'em at someones house, it's a blast. A few of the guys play local tournaments and one always flies down to Vegas to play in the small time tourney's down there.

Riverboat Gambler is in my Top 10 fantasy jobs.

its a different game playing for free, some of the subtler points of the game are lost because nobody really cares as they wont lose anything but playing for money against people you cant see is pretty tricky if you ask me.

so, cant you log on to any poker site in the rest of the world to gamble?

You could try a proxy server - but I would advise caution. An online gambling site will involve transmission of id, passwords and banking details. It is possible for a proxy server to intercept and record that info - especially if you use a free one.

Here is a site listing a few though if you are interested

there are sites. I will give you more information when I get it. apparently cordo's cousin plays poker for a living. he travels around and does it, but has been playing online a lot lately instead. he has an employee for the online stuff...that's how lucrative it can get I guess.

I pm you when I get the secret stuff. ;););)

i dont trust all that.

i saw this thing on 20/20 about a really big online poker site that one of the employees of the site somehow hacked the system and was able to see everyones hand while playing and was making millions of dollars off people. they caught the error but they didnt catch the person. and who knows how much stuff like that really goes on. stick to the real life slummy shady underground poker games. much more safe.

You'll be sorry one day

Yes you will

Yes you will

Sorry, I love that song.

Erm - I forgot what I was going to reply about.

Write to the new president. I'm sure he'll reverse the laws for ya. Just link this thread.

Also, didn't you say you wanted to up-stix and move your ass other week? Can't you move to a state that does allow such things. Or the UK, you $'s and worth more now here. Plus we aren't over loaded with lawyers like in the USA so they maybe a job about.

Then marry a British girl. Then you can get pass to travel the EU without any real border control. (when I worked for immigration, they used to pick on americans throughout the EU, even here). So that'd be handy.

Damn foreigners - stealing our jobs and our women

yeah, i'll take a british girl, that'll solve the girl problem too...first come first serve ladies...;)

actually my state is talking about legalizing gambling, but i dunno if that applies to internet gambling. i guess even if it doesn't i could go to a brick and mortar casino, but if i wanted to do that i could just drive to connecticut and go to an indian casino and i haven't done that so apparently i don't want to, i just want to click buttons and make free money pleazzzzzzzz

i love how bob just finished law school and now he is BREAKING ZE LAAWW! brilliant! i keed.

i'd tread carefully with online gambling.. hmm. for every "professional gambler" there's a "professional hobo".. my ex-boyfriend lost about £500 in one month and was all :/ if you're careful with your max stakes though it can be fun. good luck, ya shark.

we've just started monthly poker games at work.. we each put a little bit of money in - £4/5 and play for the pot - normally about £20-30 bucks. not too shabby. that and a couple of bottles of wine and some banter - great night. heyy... bob! why don't you play poker irl and get some girls over? seriously. you're sat in a room with a bunch of people, some booze, and you're playing a game.. no pressure to talk all night. DO IT!

Coming from a country thats massive on gambling it sounds really strange for it to be illegal. So you can't bet on horses even??? Greyhounds?? anything??

Here there's a TAB (betting terminal) in the front bar of every pub. and 30 odd slot machines. There's also companies like Centrebet which takes bets and has odds on just about everything and anything you can think of. And more.

Gambling? Illegal?? Get outta here.

I feel like being "half-way decent" doesn't exactly quantify into huge amounts of poker-friendly money, Bob.

It boggles my mind to. I think people get big on it cus it is illegal. Like Amsterdam & pot for example, its just full of the British getting high and arrested. None of the dutch go anywhere near it. Cus they make it illegal they make it more fun.

Legalise it all and you stop people doing it. I would say the UK do have a gambling problem but I bet it way lower than the USofA's problem per 1000 or whatever just because we take it for granted and its not much fun losing money after you make your first bet at 16/18 or whatever it is these days ~ think it was 16 when I was 16.

You can bet on the ponies at the track, and you can setup a phonebet account at the track, but you can't just walk into a bar and legally bet on the horse races.

That's where bookies come in.

You can also go to the track's casino and play a Video Poker Machine which has a video of a dealer and five people can play, but they can't have live dealers dealing poker.
And bars can have the little video poker machines, but they can't legally pay out. They're for amusement only.
But again, that's where the bookies come in. The bars I go to illegally pay them out if you hit.

Also, there's no legal sports books anywhere in the country accept for Vegas.
Bookies take all that action, or you can bet online with an offshore carribean casino, if you trust it.

Basically the illegal bookies are your easiest place to go.

BetUS.com. That's where I bet on the NFL and they have casino games. I used to go through Bodog, but they change their name every 2 weeks cuz of some legal bullshit.

good luck!

yeah, i play a bi-monthlyish poker game with some friends (all dudes though). we play no limit hold 'em and the winner takes the pot (or the last two people split it, depending on how long the game lasts).

it's fun, but i'm kind of looking for a game where i can cash out when i'm ahead. i'm ok at the game, but not good enough to be the last person at the table.

Can you use offshore poker sites? I'm sure there are some Australian sites kicking around.

it's not the location of the site, it's just illegal to pay out to people in the USA. i'm playing on partypoker.com now, which is based in gibraltar, and there's a thing on their site like "customers in the US can't play the real money games" etc etc

i'll check out some of the options floating around here, thanks

or i could go to a casino i guess

i dunno if this site is just rigged to let newbies win so that they get comfortable and spend more money or whatever but i'm up again, i've won 1,100 fake dollars in the last three days (the earlier post where i said i'd won 1,000 fake dollars in one night was an exaggeration, it was more like 400). that's more than i've ever made working at a real job, i could just do this for a living

DAMN YOU PURITAN REPUBLICANS, YOU'RE RUINING MY LIVELIHOOD

edit: now 1,500 fake dollars

EDIT EDIT: 1,700

OK Bob I don't want you to take offensive at this since you are obviously a (relatively) smart guy and all...

but if you can't figure out how to play poker for real money on-line (when literally TENS of millions of other AMERICANS have, not to mention the worldwide number of on-line poker players) then maybe you shouldn't do it.
Again no offense man, congrats on finishing law school smart guy. Maybe focus on that.

well you see, what i was doing was putting the question out there so that maybe one of the tens of millions of americans who already knows how to do it could just pipe up and tell me what to do so i don't have to waste my time spinning my wheels figuring out on my own. sometimes that's how people learn things, by asking people who already know those things! you're right though, it was a stupid thing to do, thanks for the help (y)

so i'm looking around and it looks like the only way to do it really is to either use an ewallet (though i can't tell how reliable any of them are or if they would even actually work correctly, since a bunch of the ones that used to do it like netteller and epassporte got threatened with lawsuits and stopped serving US customers) or to actually trust a third party to do the transfer for you, which is shady as hell

i'm sure that's exactly what congress wanted problem gamblers to do

It's a good thing I don't actually play for money online, I'm well shit! Sometimes I win loads of points, but generally I am crap. I won $60 real money at blackjack though.
