Is it possible?

Did you lose all your friends?

Did you find new ones?

Is it worth it?

Did it make you boring?

Did you ever get laid again?

I'm talking from the point of view where you are having about 60 (UK) units a week. Which is fairly high in average terms. Not the point of view you never been a big drinker so it was easier to never really start.

Last night I tried to stay on the shorts as I can monitor it more and I ended up having 2 pints of guinness and 12 shots of jamesons. Which I think is pretty respectable, I wasn't particularly wasted but I did leave early and I know to most that is a lot. I come from an Irish family of hardcore drinkers.

I woke up too damn early today. Maybe when my head is clear I'll think about this more...

Basic training.

Also quit smoking pot for about 10 years after that as well.

While overseas, it was drink at your own risk n shit since it's illegal. It just makes you more desperate so you decide to get all crafty and learn to make your own.

Alcohol is great. In moderation and nothing more. Learn it. Drink it.

Well, I think places where I can't drink I won't drink. Its more a social problem with me.

I say problem, I just need to think more about how much and why I drink. Its been 12 years since I started drinking regularly and I haven't really stopped. I'm only 28 but I doubt since then there has been 100 instances where I've gone 24 hours without alcohol...

...hmmms, that is pretty sobering.

Is it possible?

YES. Did it about 10 years ago

Did you lose all your friends?

I lost some but i also found out who my real friends were.

Did you find new ones?

With the help of some other friends , i also met my wife at this point

Is it worth it?

Yup

Did it make you boring?

I think its made me a little less fond of actually going out to meals, weddings etc in the long term. But i am a lot more conident than i was. I still smoke a bit of green now and again but not a lot.

Did you ever get laid again?

There was a four year period where i proper battered a lot of substance, all i did was drink, easily 60 units a week ,smoke shitloads of weed, cane pills, whatever, didnt have a very good job, still lived at me mams in my late twenties. No confidence, just a skint addict. So in that time i never had relations with anyone but my right hand. Some other family problems also. I was obsessed with getting twatted. I was a very depressed indiviual.

I gave up drinking and within six months, I got a job for twice as much as last job, met loads of new friends inlcuding my future wife, so yes i got a laid a fuck of a lot more than i did when i used to drink.

Thanks GI!

Here is the plan: I'm gonna have 2 sober nights IN A ROW a week. This might sound pretty easy to most but I can't sleep without drinking or taking some other drug - I know there are better drugs (relatively for ya) but alcohol is easiest to take socially.

I think I was having one of those 'I'll never drink again hangovers' but the hangover wasn't that bad.

Plus I don't think I've hit a bottom enough yet to quit. And I don't think I want to quit. I just want to be a bit more responsible for my health. I'm pretty happy atm and doing that without getting loaded is the current aim.

I used to think the same about sleeping, especially about weed, but it only took a few nights without anything to sort me out.

I quit drinking partly for health, partly cos i felt i should and partly because i didnt like the people who i would drink with and i needed to remove myself from that but i realised that not drinking helped me think a lot clearer.

i think it's safer to say "cutting down" rather than quitting altogether. if you absolutely rule out things you want them more and then when you do sniff some booze for the first time in a while you'll want to get absolutely rat arsed and just drink more than the usual.

it is possible to go out and not drink, or just drink one. maybe try rotating on a night out between beer (or whatever ) / soft drink / beer / soft drink etc. OR try drinking half pints. recently i've banned cider because the one i was drinking was a whopping 6.5% and the last time i had a few of them (after not drinking for two weeks i might add) i couldn't even see properly by the time i got home, which is highly unlike me.

i have been drinking more since i moved to bristol because, yeah, i am quite shy and find it helps in normally nerve-racking situations for me like going out with new colleagues etc. but then i think hmm.. what would they prefer? me being my normal friendly self or being COMPLETELY FUCKED OUT MY EYEBALLS? you don't need to drink for confidence. i know that now.

maybe just drink on the weekends. hm. i don't know.

haha, drinking halves.

I might as well cut my penis off.

I'm doing the cutting down thing. Not tonight tho. I'm too depressed and drinking alone (y)

I haven't had anything to drink since monday. but I was sick. been drinking since 2 p.m. today on account of needing to sing and being drunk makes the coughing less.

on the whiskey now, supposed to have gone to a party, but put on pajamas instead.

whiskey is magic, I tell thee, I feel as well as can be. tomorrow, I fear, will not be so kind.

I've cut back massively. Now that I don't dj at clubs it helps.

Plus I quit smoking and have a kid so massive amounts of moderation will be the case.

Don't really miss it, I hope my liver will survive
