Who are Chris Brown and Rihanna?
Thousands of women are beaten and killed everyday and barely a blink at it, but a celebrity gets beat and it's huge news
Sorta like the missing blonde hair girl syndrome...we very rarely hear of a poor black, asian, latino girl or even a boy?!
I hope justice is served for this assault

See, the joke I posted was an obvious attempt at inappropiate humor. I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to ever take it seriously.
Your post making an issue of the media never making a big deal over "poor black, asian, latino girls or even boys" was intended to be taken seriously.
Huge difference.
I know you'll never admit that you were wrong and or that your comment was inappropiate because you're supposed to be so much more evolved than me, but if you're going to attempt to be serious, than your comment was narrow-minded and racist.
I actually have a family member who's a "pretty blonde white girl" that nobody knew was a victim of domestic violence for a long time, so your comment kind of offended me.
Women from all walks of life and financial backgrounds are victims of domestic violence every day that you'll never hear about, not just the poor black, asian, or latino women.
It's much more common than you'd probably expect.
kaiser soze
02-21-2009, 06:42 PM
How was my post racist, racist towards who?
I've notice that there have been many HUGE news stories surrounding missing white, blonde girls and very little when it is of someone of another ethnicity (may they be poor or rich).
How is that racist, please explain - I'm missing your point once again.
I also have noticed that domestic abuse usually isn't a big story unless it occurs someone important.
And yes your post was insensitive and I guarantee some women (expecially ones who have been assaulted) would also find it insensitive.
My heart goes out to all who are abused and abducted no matter what, I just noticed that the media only picks up on what they think is best for ratings.
But hey....keep on with the political correctness for your convenience

See what i think happened here was Robmoney made an attempt to point out that you are suggesting only blacks, asians and latinos beat thier women....
Which is what i thought you were going for at first too....
But i get it now, you are blaming the media for covering something like caylee anthony but not every time a women gets hit.
RobMoney$
02-21-2009, 08:08 PM
Well, first of all just looking at the story this thread was created for, Rhianna & Chris Brown. Both are black, or afro-american. So there goes your theory about only "pretty white girls" getting abused getting any attention from the media.
But that's not the reason this is a huge story.
It's because this is a high-profile couple, thus it's a high-profile story.
It really has very little to do with anyone's race, although some may want to spin it that way.
Secondly, the reason Kaiser's post bothered me was that he's contending that "pretty white women" who are victims of domestic abuse somehow recieve more attention, or more help. He also made an issue of saying "poor black, asian, or latino girls", as if poor white women have it any better. I'm sure you can imagine that there are many white girls in bi-racial relationships with black, asian, or latino men who are victims.
There's plenty of poor white women that are victims of poor white men as well.
Not sure why you needed to single out a certain race, or socio-economic group of people at all.
It happens regardless of race, bi-race couples, or economic stature. Almost none of which are ever reported by the media.

Umm....duh! C'mon! They are people that are in the limelight and especially with the whole situation that fit around the Grammys. I'm not even gonna get into your "blonde hair girl syndrome" other than it's a weak take on the situation. And why is it so bad that it's a big news story because of it being who it happened to? All the more better to open new eyes on domestic or any kind of abuse.
kaiser soze
02-21-2009, 08:41 PM
you misunderstood what I said rob and you can continue to think I am ignorant but I do know there are poor women (and men and children) of all ethnic backgrounds out there and many of them are subjected to abuse, assault, murder, and end up missing.
I also know that without the celebrity these two wouldn't be in the news.
What I do notice is that the sensationalism applies to certain types. We all know unfortunately that there are cases far worse than this and others that get little to no news.
My comment doesn't lessen the severity of this crime, I already expressed how I feel about this case

God, some of you are so stupid. "White, blonde girl syndrome" refers to stories about kidnapped/murdered children. You rarely hear stories of little girls of different races, and I can't recall ever hearing a similar story about a little boy. Hell, you don't even hear about little brunette or redhead white girls that often. It's almost always the Jon Benet Ramsey types.

I grew up in a house watching my dad beat on which ever of my stepmothers he happened to be married to at the time. It sucked. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and walking down the hall and seeing blood smeared on the wall, broken dishes and shit all in the carpet and the living room full of cops and my dad in handcuffs hollering at me to "do something!!" What the fuck was I supposed to do? I was eight years old.
Growing up like that has always made me hate that joke but I've also known Robmoney long enough to know that he didn't mean anything by it. He's already chalked it up to poor judgement so just let it go.

yeah, I think what made the joke over the top offensive though, was the addition of "dumb bitch". I've heard it as "she's already been told twice", and cringed, but didn't grimace like I did with rob's version.
either way I don't like it though. I guess that's what happens when as a six year old you get a black eye from a phone receiver swung by your father that was meant for your mother, but you got in the way because you were trying to stop the beating.
but I don't mean to beat a dead horse. let me know if you guys want to hear about the time my father pinned my mom down and put a gun to her head and kept spitting in her face. it's pretty funny. (y)

I just think that joke is gross is all. I only said something because mikizee brought it up again. s'why I said "grain of salt, my ass" because he said "grain of salt, people".
not trying to start a fight or get on a soapbox. I think you and kaiser are just arguing for argument's sake. I think it's good that people are talking about Chris Brown and Rhianna, I think sometimes people forget that abuse can happen at all socioeconomic levels and in all cultures. it's good that there's public outcry against it. mostly for the teenagers. In high school, I had a basketball teammate tell me that her boyfriend would sometimes punch her, and acted sort of like it was funny or okay...and I was like, whoa, drop that kid, seriously, that is NOT OKAY.
I think sometimes young women are so intent on holding on to a man that they put up with abuse and make excuses for it. and they need to know that there is no excuse.
I can't share case files with you, because my mom never pressed charges. she just made excuses until she couldn't make anymore and we had to run.
my point is, that joke makes my stomach churn. and I don't think people should tell it. dead baby jokes are okay though.
