I don't like Jade Goody - the programs she has done has made Britain worse. I feel bad for her cus she has taken a lot of stick for dying in the media.

But I find it hypocritical that Terry Pratchett is shown as a hero for doing the same thing. Just because he has a bit more class.

And that is exactly it, the class system in the UK makes us all snobs about it.

People should even be ok with it or not - not be hypocrites about it.

just to clarify, i have no problem with her reasoning about selling her stor(ies) and dying in the public eye. i'm just saying it is a new thing - the life and death of a reality star. she fell so spectacularly from grace, the whole country felt like stoning her, and now is dying a very public death. we might as well feed people to lions.

i wouldn't dare criticise a woman trying to make as much cash for her kids before she dies, i'm just saying this is a new thing.. i read a times feature recently that described her as a broken toy that we made and want no more. made some really good points. arrghh i can't find a link that works.. later. but yeah. out of brand jade goody the thing she will profit the most from is her death. there is a demand for it. people will pay.

did you know the cervical smear screening age in the uk is 25? jade is 27. i had my last one a year and a half ago. i should call them up.

Oh, I wasn't having a go at you - it just put me into rant mode of modern media, its these self-righteous blogs that critcise her. I think the fact that people are getting tested for cancers more are a good thing.

The chances of getting such a cancer like JD's at such a young age are so low. Its real bad luck.

i was thinking about this-I would totally try and squirrel in as much cash as possible for my two boys if i found myself in the same situation. And she's never had a great deal of dignity when it comes to her representation in the media-and it seems that media will be there for her final breath. It's all incredibly sad, largely coz of the young kids but i lost a little bit of sympathy when i read the headline with a supposed quote from Jade that said she'd had the happiest day of her life and now she was ready to go to heaven. What???

whilst i think its ok for her to make as much wedge as poss, i cant help feeling someone is advising her to take things as far as possible for their own gain. i.e max clifford.
apart from that she is giving some to cancer charities and rasing awareness, lets face it, she is a role model to loads of girls for good or bad reasons and if all this means that the importance of regular smear tests is publicised then thats good.
it is a all a bit unsettling but thats because death is like that.

I had not thought of it that way before, but you are absolutely right. One is story is told for watchers of BBC4, and one for readers of OK magazine.

i thnk the differing illnesses matter as well though.
pratchetts got a slow painful, illness thats not always as visible.
jade's been told a few months, her appearance has changed rapidly and we are getting to see it all so its a bit more overwhelming to some imo.
There's a lot shock going on with some of the reactions to all this if you ask me.

I remember this stupid girl. It's a real case of dying by the sword; I laughed out loud when I heard that she of all people was now dying, in the public eye.

Edit: I don't wish her fate on anyone, it's terrible an I'm glad the 'Jade Goody Effect' has young women being checked out.

what she's doing now makes me think she's not so bad after all.

I think it's a curious case of fate. Here you have this young woman who basically for years has epitomised everything that is wrong about 'fame' in modern society- empty celebrity, people who are famous for being famous and who seem to exist for no purpose other than to fill up pages of gossip rags. And now, in these last few months of her life, she will end up doing more public good than any NHS campaign could hope for. So one could posit that her dying is essentially giving reason to her having lived, in a way.

fucking cancer is a bitch, I feel so bad for her children.

Its weird, this is my first mothers day without my mother since she died of cancer and I'm feeling... ...I dunno how I am feeling but just a bit ill and pissed off. But to lose ya mum on mothers day is horrid but I don't want to think about it cus it makes me feel bad.

But you know these things always seem to fall near a day that will remind you of them; I remember my dads death the year before and it was a long slow death from cancer and he passed away a day after my mum and dads anniversary.

All I know its depressing. But for those who still have their mum - treat them nice today, you'll miss them more than you think when they are gone.

Sorry to make this thread all depressing... more so.

Reality TV star Jade Goody dies aged 27 after a high-profile battle with cancer, as the prime minister leads the tributes.

Jesus fucking Christ.

^ he had to, its been that prominent over the last few weeks, plus he forgot her name the other week.
i find it all very weird, the fact that she was ever famous and the way she has left us has got me thinking about all that stuff about everything happening for a reason, like peachy said, her death and illness has kinda been her reason for living. her dying has been the most important, influential thing she ever did. The second was being a little bit racialist and the third was getting her foof out on national tv. very strange. plus she is now technically a member of the 27 club but i aint mentioning her name alongside the other members.

I really didn't even know who she was until she was dying...I know she was on big brother UK, but what did she do to make everyone hate her on the show, I can't find any info on that.

I had absolutely no idea who she was until last Wednesday when something came on TV about her cancer. From the little bit that I know, she had made some real fucked up comments to an Arab girl on one of the Big Brother shows she was on. Apparantly she was the house drama queen.

but that fact that her condition has prompted so many young women to get themselves screened for cancer is a great thing.

And at the end of the day, when all is said and done, that ^ is all that really matters.
