Writing a personal statement is horrendous

I feel like such a clown writing about myself.

"I did this and this and I am awesome so take me on because I am the best."

In any other situation if you read a personal statement you'd think that guy/girl was a dick.

unfortunately, personal statements have to be written like you're a douchebag, otherwise admissions douchebags wont read them. the best advice i got was "if someone was writing the best things about you in the cheesiest way possible, what would that person write?"

but i don't think there's much wrong with writing "im the best, you best believe me". it's a good exercise in shameless self promotion.

Yeah... unfortunately, modesty gets you nowhere in the work environment.

eh not always. they can be done a little more creative than that. you can put the "why" factor in there. why you are like that, what drove you to do such things, what makes you tick, why you are who you are. instead of the old i did this and this and that and this. blah blah blah.

it's awful. just stick to the facts and don't be all romantic about yourself, that's the worst when people do that.
