View Full Version : The funniest person you know

The person who makes you laugh most often. If you want to tell us who they are and what they're like, please do so. I have a theory.

Also, how important is it to you that your favorite person make you laugh? Do you have someone you love a whole whole lot, but who doesn't make you laugh?

I find dogs to be most humourous.

Just seeing a dog smiling makes my day.

I know about zero funny females. many that are great as punchlines/props though.

edit: however, judging by some of the posts here I would assume that the ladies on this board are amusing. Heiress was definitely one of the funniest people I've met in a long time.

whenever a bunch of people get together the guys laugh it up and the girls just tend to SIT there and are fairly serious compared to the guys. i don't get it. girls never get jokes either! you always have to explain it to them!

a girl that can crack a good joke or bust out some sillyness is fucking hot.

nice save brosef!

dred is just as funny IRL as he is here. although sometimes you are distracted by the charm that is practically oozing from his pores.

I'd say 95% of the people I choose to hang out with are considered funny.
both male and female. Luckily, I have this odd ability to attract truly fucking hilarious girls.
some are more of the witty types, while others are flat-out physical comedians.

this is hard to answer because humor is very important in my life. I think I'm pretty funny and that a lot of my friends are funny, male and female.

one lady friend of mine is very funny, she does improv and is a writer so she's definitely more professionally funny than anyone I know. she leans more toward the absurd, tina fey style of comedy I'd say...maybe a little more weird though.

a male friend of mine is funny in more of a pun/clever-turn-of-phrase way. we have on occasion, joked about civil war-era political parties. I think I make him laugh more than he makes me laugh though.

I know a couple of other ladies who are excellent at improv and have just generally amusing personalities.

I think those are the only people I know besides me, who purposely try to be funny. all my friends like to laugh and be clever and/or silly though. I've had just as many giggles with men as I have with women.

I don't love anyone who doesn't make me laugh. okay, that's maybe not true. I have a friend who doesn't really make me laugh that often, but sometimes we laugh together at things. our friendship is mostly based on our similar backgrounds and political opinions though. we listen to NPR together and have a lot of serious talks. ha. wait, that's not funny.

That last one is more of a Garrison Keillor type person, Dorothy?

Most of the time, and I'm just generalizing here, the women who are considered to be funny by other women are the type who make jokes about their periods and tell graphic and shameless stories about being sexually promiscuous, or being bitchy in public. I don't know why a lot of girls/women think this is funny, I guess it's like "Oh my god I would never do that, that's so wild, she's out of control!" Have you ever seen Chelsea Handler? She's a perfect example. But I never enjoyed this humor and I think it makes me seem like a boring old nerd to a lot of women, and relegates me to the approximation of the man who finds female objectivication distasteful and refuses to participate.

Same.

I only really laugh at subtle wisecracks and sarcastic remarks etc. The same criteria I have with comedy in movies. I don't often laugh at slapstick, loud, attention-grabbing humor. So I hate when anybody (but especially girls) make spectacles of themselves in an effort to seem funny. The missus is pretty funny to me. But I think we bounce the jokes off one another more than anything. So I guess I know a lot of girls that are funny that way. But just stand alone funny females, I don't really know any.

I don't know how they are in real life, but yeah, there's a lot of funny females on this board. Internet-wise, at least. But we all know that's what counts.

The funniest person I know is a male, but he's the "woman" of our relationship.

03-03-2009, 03:52 PM
I don't get this "women aren't funny" thing. My wife is very funny and witty. There are also several very funny women here that make me laugh. Anywho, I'm voting for "other" because I'm easily entertained.

I have this theory. Well, a generalization. I'm sure it's been discussed in the past at great length by people with more significant and valued opinions than mine, but I'd like to share it:

When women say, "he has a great sense of humor", they generally mean, "I appreciate his sense of humor and I laugh at his jokes".

When men say "she has a good sense of humor", it can be loosely translated as, "she appreciates MY sense of humor and laughs at my jokes".

Guys, by nature, feel it's the innate duty of the male to impress the female on the first date, which is usually hinged 90% on sense of humor. Things like jobs and conveying intelligence are second tier instruments for future points of interests, like further dates.

03-03-2009, 04:02 PM
also men will laught at a woman's jokes (in a social setting) more easily that a woman will laught at a man's.

and i mean this absolutely, no generalizations here, no sireee

All I can say is, you haven't been exposed to much comedy if you don't think girls are funny. Chelsea Handler is a stupid whore and her style is not my thing at all.

I don't know...I've been doing stand-up for 5 months. I've improved a lot, but I have a long way to go. But I have a lot of people tell me I'm funny. Mostly dudes, cause that is all that is at shows. And NO it's not just cause they want to bone me, though maybe some do. I think it's because I don't think of myself as a girl up there...I just tell jokes, and it comes out the way it comes out. None of them are about being a girl, except one that I have that is a stupid rape joke just to use when other people have dumb rape jokes. Most women I know that do standup and are successful at it, let their view as a female be a part of their perspective, but they don't let it take over their act.

All this being said though, I honestly can't think of the funniest person I know. I know waaaaay too many funny people to decide on that.

ha, no, a prairie home companion is the worst. well, mostly. we're This American Life girls. or, we discuss the news stories and the general state of humankind. and practical things like our vaginas, bowel movements and how to build shelves or re-tile your kitchen backsplash.

and I cannot stand chelsea handler! I don't like bitter, female-centered comedy at all. not one bit. okay, maybe some stuff, but not really. the things I find funny are usually gender-neutral. I rarely find crassness appealing. in small doses it's alright and I'll laugh out of shock, but I don't find it clever. that's why I don't like sarah silverman either.

sometimes I think people laugh at comedy because they think they're supposed to. they're not really thinking about it very hard, they're just like, "oh! this is comedy! HAHAHA HA HA HA! she is saying things that are comical! oh my gosh!"

theres funny women but in most cases it seems like those are either bi or lesbians maybe cause they think they are men!

all in all i find guys funnier cause they are more likely to have real dark, low and nasty humor which is that kind of humor that makes me laugh (y)

Do you have any close female friends or just casual ones? I ask because I have many female friends and none of them do the things you describe. Of course, I wouldn't hang out with women like that so there is self selection involved. I'm really picky about who I spend time with. I also don't hang out with guys who act like apes. My female friends are really smart and well read and they have interesting life experiences. Their humor tends to be witty and subtle.

I can't pick one funniest person. I have funny friends of both sexes. Overall, I know more funny women but there is this guy who works for me who is absolutely hilarious. I love dry humor and he is the driest. Few people even realize that he's funny at all. He's like a secret weapon. I love people who surprise me.

I HATE people who try to hard to be funny. I never find those people funny. I work with a guy like that too. He drives me crazy. He's like that Eric Idle character.

sometimes I am wild and outlandish, and sometimes I am whispering my jokes to one person. miming also works sometimes. not like, being a mime, but making hand gestures to mime an action. wait...is that being a mime? damn it.

I think because I'm generally quiet and kind (in person), that I'm allowed to get away with falling on the floor when I don't like something or yelling really loud at inappropriate times. I used to do stuff like take guys' shirts off at parties, but I'm a bit too old for that now.

anyway, I think that a lot of mainstream female comedians are sometimes like the kind of ladies you're describing. but I would venture to say that mainstream male comedians are just as unfunny and obnoxious.
