Since I had to give up coffee a few years ago I've learned to enjoy tea. I usually limit my intake of greens and blacks to 2-3 mugs a day because of the caffeine. But I still like to sip it pretty much all day at work and when I get home so for the rest I stick to herbals like peppermint, chammomile, and other herbal blends.
It sometimes adds up to 8-12 mugs of tea a day total, is this too much? I try to drink water instead but its not as enjoyable.

nah, i do the same thing.. aside from the caffeine thing, which you've got handled, no harm.
i thnk if you stick to the basic herbals thats alright. camomile is ok. too much peppermint tea can give you heartburn. watch out for valerian root tea though. too much of that can be harmful, its potent stuff.
i was having a particularly stressful day once and had just gotten some. i brewed some, then with that tea i brewed more into it. i felt like i had taken three vicodin, no joke 100% serious. too often it can fuck with your blood pressure, thats a once in a while thing

Yeah, I have a valerian root tea I sometimes drink before bed, it knocks me the fuck out. I have never used more than one bag of that shit at a time, I'd be out for 24 hours.
Good call on the Peppermint, I was not aware of that.

try yerba mate. the stuff is amazing for when you need to work, its like ritalin.
also, ginger tea. slice up the root, boil for a while, add lemon and honey. very good stuffs and its good for you, digestion, sinuses, memory, appetite. it actually has a nice kick to it.

Another good call. I have a chunk of Ginger root at home that needed a small amount of for a recipe but I didn't know what I was going to do with the rest of it. How much should I boil for a good cup of tea?

shit, i'm gonna get me some valerian root too! knocks you out? YES PLEASE!
i'm not really a tea drinker. i'm a terrible british person. but i love chai. mmm.. chai. sigh. i don't have any at the moment.
past couple of weeks i've been drinking more tea though (maybe 4 cups a day from ZERO) because every time i feel like i want to snack on something i make myself tea instead. it's also a good excuse for a break from work. get tea for everyone, sit and natter on. no work.

you can use a good 1-2 inch chunk. i like it strong so i use a lot. also, you can throw some lemon or orange rinds in there and the boiling pulls the oils out of the skin. i likey

na§tee, if you want the valerian root make sure you get it from the organic section of the grocery store or a health/vitamin shop. And read the label to see how much of a punch it might pack. The tea I drink at bedtime has two versions and in one of them the valerian root isn't nearly as strong, I'm not sure why. I think one is "enhanced" or "fortified" or something.

yeah, but buy your teas loose. i put the herbs right in the water then strain it. i get my herbies at this mexican bodega that has a display case of all kinds of loose teas. its pretty cheap, you can get a bag of valerian for like $3. but DONT HAVE IT TOO OFTEN!
edit: if you can handle the bitter, try kuding tea. also an invigorator, but without caffeine..

Since you've been drinking so much tea, have you noticed anything better about your health? Are you not getting sick as often, is your digestion good?
These are things I've heard about drinking lots of tea.
I drink a lot of tea also, and people are always giving me tea as a gift. I think it's what keeps me from getting sick most of the time. Have you ever noticed that when you're sick, you can feel almost 100% better while drinking tea?
I know you can't have too much herbal tea. It's just like water - except for some of those crazy herbs, but I buy celestial seasonings.

Well its hard to tell. This year I got an infected lymph node and it was probably the sickest I've been in my life. But I have also been under more stress in the last 6-8 months than the rest of my life.
Overall, in the last few years I get sick much more rarely than previously, so it would seem it has helped.
And I just enjoy it, there's a limitless variety of flavors and healthy herbs. I guess the only thing I need to worry about it is my teeth.

i drink several cups a day of tea, especially in the winter. im cold. i like tea.
i drink a sleepytime tea nearly every night. it calms me down. it's got chamomile, spearmint, West Indian lemongrass, tilia flowers, blackberry leaves, orange blossoms, hawthorn and rosebuds. sometimes i have sleepytime extra with valerian root.
im actually gonna have some now. i just want to feel less anxious.

actually i misspoke when i said boil, especially if you dont like the bitter taste i think.. you want to let it simmer on med heat but NOT boil.
and crafty, you have to have lemon and honey with the ginger, it tastes gross without

Ginger is wonderful for stomach aches. I remember one time I was at my fiance's mom's house and I got this horrible stomach ache, she gave me a piece of ginger candy and it went away within like 15 minutes.

I was addicted to Lady Grey tea for a while, a couple of years ago. I've since gone back to my 3 cups of coffee a day for the simple fact that I require substantially higher levels of caffeine these days.

Then this is for you (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbdZzJvz08M&feature=related)
i tried switching to tea recently, but it really couldn't replace coffee for the "keeping me up/regular" factor so i've gone back to coffee
i'm interested in trying this valerian root tea though, i like the idea of a drink that makes you sleepy that isn't alcohol or nyquil, i could use a thing like that. it's like backwards coffee
so i'm looking into this valerian tea thing and wikipedia has this to say about it
The volatile oils that form the active ingredient are extremely pungent, somewhat reminiscent of well-matured cheese or wet dog.
why on earth would you drink a tea made out of this

I drink the same one as monkey, it's called "Sleepy Time" and I think Celestial Seasonings makes it. But get the version that's enhanced or something, the one with real valerian in it. I don't think it tastes like wet dog at all. But if you get actual Valerian root and make your own tea as b i o n i c does, it might taste like wet dog.
I wouldn't know, I've never tasted a wet dog.

It's been my experience that dogs don't fit that well into to mugs, not even tea cup yorkies.

unfortunately there has been some girls in my past...
but i would like to explore this valerian tea. when id smoke it was real easy for me to pass out. but now that im on a break, even if i feel real tired somehow my mind keeps me awake.
Hmmm. Regular green tea/local honey does it for me. I forget about the caffeine in it, I just drink it for kicks. Good stuff.
