best: still thinking
worst: tie - selling septic tank cleaner over the phone & delivering pizza in my nearly dead car for a month.
when i delivered pizza in college, it was the only job i could get, they were the only people who would take me**, and i told them my car was fine. actually, my car would stall anytime you'd idle for more than 15 seconds. and there was never a guarantee it would start again. that car ran on hail marys and actually got me through a month of work till school. the silver lining was the time an older lady answered her door in skimpy clothes and invited me to "help her move something"... just like in the movies!
the septic tank cleaner... need i say more? not only was it a shit cleaner, it was expensive! like $200! anyone who actually sold those things was my hero. hint: when people call you to sell something, don't let them ask you dumb questions that get you to say the word yes, its a trap!
honorable mention: i had a job for 10 minutes.. i got hired to be a waiter at this fancy cafe. then gave me the apron i had to wear.. which looked like a long purple dress. i turned to the lady, handed her the apron and said, i gotta go, walked out the door. **wait actually, i walked out the door and got the job at the pizza place.

best? probably the job I have now, simply because of the type of work this place does (community building via the arts).
worst? working for a doctors office doing data entry for their invoices. it wasn't all that bad, but the people I worked for...
I was very friendly, did my work, etc but they seemed so upset because unlike the navy wives that were in the job before me, I didn't LOVE the job.
My boss would constantly say "Oh I hate to compare, but the two women in this position before you just LOVED their job!" and she'd clasp her hands together and sigh like those women were the most amazing people in the world. I think she said this to me at least every other day. Maybe the women would always say "Oh thanks so much! THIS IS SO FUN!!!!!" or something, I dunno.
Um, I'm inputting random info all day long. It's fine, but sorry I don't LOVE it! I do my work and I'm friendly in the office, I'm on time and do everything I'm told, so WTF? Whatever. They lost money and since I was first hired I was first to go. It was awful timing financially but mentally I was praising jesus and I'm an agnostic.
Honorable Mention: When I moved back to San Diego after being in DC for a year. I transferred to the Hooters in SD and it was the worst experience ever. DC was actually kind of fun; lots of families came in and I'd draw pictures for the kids. SD was like being stuck in a bar for 8+ hours with dudes flirting and asking for your number. Dudes that you REALLY, REALLY don't want to be talking to but you HAVE to because it's your job. In DC folks realized that was my job and I was their waitress. San Diego people though I was a girl looking to be picked up. I mean it is HOOTERS so what do I expect right? But again, DC was totally different.
I also had to wear a name tag (required even if one isn't made with your name on it yet) from one of the kitchen guys named "Jose". I cannot tell you how many times I heard "you are the best looking Jose I've EVER seen!" in one day. Christ, I wanted to stab people.

Best: running my own business
Worst: delivering pizzas
Box factory should be up there with the worst jobs, but I slacked off so hard there, that I really can't complain. I mean epic slacking. Like wow.

a box factory! I know people who've worked at a box factory, said they always goofed off, listened to music, enjoyed cutting, once spilled glue by letting it drain all night.
Best job: this one I have now because I have a nice corner desk in a sunny corner office and I like my boss and coworkers and it's good.
Worst job, actually wasn't fast food or anything like that, it was the child abuse center. I just hated my boss.
And that was worse even than clothing retail, book retail, and donut shop.

Worst, being a receptionist with one of those fly by night door to door vacuum cleaner sales places. So boring I wanted to claw my eyes out some days. And I was only part time, about 6 hours a day.
Best, probably the job I have now, despite the stress.

I wasn't out in the manufacturing plant at the box factory. I had a quiet little office to myself where I'd exercise, make mixes, and watch movies most days. The job wasn't very demanding. Upon my quitting, they offered the position to my assistant. The company then soon realized that the position itself was unnecessary and got rid of it altogether.
I used to work for a cable company - I loved that job. Saturdays was the best, I used to be the only one in and I was always insanely hungover and I just got high in the car park and zoned out for the day. Then I used to leave about lunch time and then come back at night to sign out because no1 would ever check and I was generally going to the ice hockey saturday night which was in the same area - so i got overtime to sometimes. It was insane slacking.
I ran my own business and when I realised I couldn't be bothered I played WoW and smoked pot all the time That was also great.
Now I am 28 and retired - that is pretty sweet also.
I can't say I've had a horrible job, worked in a newsagent for a few weeks once - that was pretty poor. Worked for a sign making firm and the boss was an ass, that didn't last long either. Oh wait; I worked for a bank in mortgages during the boom, that was horrible actually ~ mainly talking to property developers all day who talked about how many millions they have cus of property prices rising, I used to remind them that prices can down to and they was like "no will never happen, I have properties in total that are worth £50million" and I'd say "well technically you haven't paid off the mortgages yet so we [the company] own the houses". Ha, fuckers; they'll no doubt be pretty sore now.

Worst - airport security one summer at uni. I was terrified I was going to miss something that I shouldn't and cause a terrible incident
Best - this one until about 6 months ago

Worst: My first job working as a baker in a supermarket bakery, I was like 16-17, so got paid fuck all, treated like shit and it was all round crappy. Did have a bit of a laugh with the other guys there, but 2 years was too long.
Best: Working at a hotel in London, good pay, good guys to work with and the job wasn't too bad all round. But I was kind of a bit young to do a job like that, I wanted to travel and do shit, but that job was like dead end.
Best and Worst: The Army! Sometimes it is actually pretty excellent, have the best time and do some cool shit. But mostly it's a hassle and you wish you were back home doing a civvie job. This morning I was up at 5am for almost no apparent reason! Rushing around like fuck, going on firing ranges at 6am in the morning just to hang around FOR HOURS AND HOURS DOING NOTHING! Yeah, well done you fucks.

Best: Current job. Nice cosy corner desk in an expanding design studio, with probably the best view of the office. Shit-hot 24" iMac (I hate Macs, but it's still shit-hot). Still... wouldn't want to be here beyond another 2 years - I'd go insane.
Worst: Pallette truck driver. Lasted 3 days, and I hadn't even been shown how to reverse the fucker while it was loaded during my 'training'. Was told to expect a phonecall "within a couple of days" asking me to come in to work; a phonecall that came about 3 weeks later when I was busy in Manchester, and when they bitched at my refusal to put my day on hold for them, I said "You can shove your job up your arse" and slammed the phone down. Good times (y)

Worst: Night security at a hugely unpopular wood chip mill. Not only do I hate wood chip mills, but I hate security guards. Also, I locked myself out, set the alarm off and fell asleep. I was constantly late because I would sleep all day and well into the night.
I got a call from the police telling me that they knew my boss was paying me under the table, and that he was a very bad man. I rang him up (on the job, mind) and told him that I hated him and was quitting right there and then. It turns out later that it wasn't the police, just a friend of mine prank calling me : / I got harassed by that ex-boss for months. He used to sit outside my home and wait for me to come out.
Worst: Current one, working in the garden of a hardware store. My hours and pay used to be good, but now I have had my hours slashed. The rate is still pretty good. Just really bad management, we got some new bosses who make me miss the old ones, and I used to whinge about the old ones.

Worst- correctional officer. It should explain everything.
Best would probably be what I'm doing now. It's not all that bad but the fact that there's no advancements make it suck.

Worst: Tree planting, altho i did make quite a lot of money, it was freaking hard on the body and mind at time, especially the rainy days.
Best: I have to go back when i was 16, i was a guide in a equestrian center, so i basically ride my horse and hung out in the wood on little path and talk with people. That was pretty cool!!

Until that point, I'd been able to deal with the 2 main guys I had to report to, but then about 6 months ago they went into annoying dick overdrive and I bore the brunt of their zealotry. I am now in a new role where I am basically ignored and am struggling to to know where I fit in the team. It's just plain soul destroying sometimes.

Worst: I worked as a car detailer for about 2 years in Melbourne. The dude I worked with was pretty nice, but we had to cut and polish paint and steam clean interiors in 40C heat in an iron clad warehouse with no insulation or ventilation, it was fucking murder. And the owner was the kind of guy that would roll a car in for a cut 30min before quitting time. I mean, 30mins to do a job that took 1 1/2 hours minimum to complete, stupid greedy cunt needed a fucking slap.
Best: The one I got now is pretty neat. I work down at our general store 3 or four days a week. Because we're half and hour from the nearest supermarket we sell everything from mower parts to organic vegies, plus doing a cafe on the side. So I spend most of my days making coffee, selling assorted bits and bobs and giving mail to the locals and directions to tourists and just generally hangin' out. Every now and again one of my neighbours will come down and we'll spliff up on the verandah. Its run as a co-op by the local hippies, so working for them is cruisy as (the downside being there are no porno mags to read). Good job, busy enough to be interesting and lots of opportunities to slack off.

Delivering pizza was definitely the best job I ever had. Free food, which was great 'cause I worked in a Pakistani curry place. Hmmm, Samosas and Naan! Or Pakoras and Chapatis. :p Tips were mostly abyssmal, especially from those office cunts with their ties and careers. 10 orders, not a cent for a tip.
I also worked in a steel foundry once. It was fun, but some days I had to get up like at half past three in the morning. And it can't be good for your lungs.

worst: a chain frame shop where I worked for 3 years for manipulative bastards. I should've gotten out after a few months, but I was scared of change and it was easy enough to outwit the owners and read magazines all day at least 3 days out of the week.
best: the jobs I have now are pretty cool. I can dress casual and be arty and all that. I like my coworkers. but my favorite job was when I was in high school and I worked for my city's parks and recreation department at a summer day camp. I just did crafts and played outside with kids all day. I was 16, but all my coworkers were 18-24 years old and really fun and cool. I only made $4.25/hour though. ridiculous!

best job ever was chaperoning beauty queens at events. this one time in particular, a bunch of dudes paid $10,000 to charity to golf with one and i not only got paid to go with her, but got a limo ride back and forth together. those dudes didnt even get to have lunch with her, i had to. im not much for modelly chicks, but this one was fucking stunning.
i've had a lot of jobs, a bunch of great ones and lots of horrible ones..
i thought about it more and the worst one ever was probably caddying in 102 degree heat in khakis while carrying two heavy bags, WALKING behind the cart while jerkfaces rode and threw back gin & tonics.. god i hated that.
probably the worst i've ever felt at work was so surreal. i think i've mentioned waitering. this one lobster night, i remember in fuzzy slow motion the sight of a room full of people with bibs on and juicy chins dripping melted butter tearing these things apart, the sound of cracking shells everywhere, lip smacking open mouth chewing. that night it was sort of a treat for the waiters, all we had to do was take these popcorn bins brimming with devoured lobster parts and replace them with empty bins. i felt like a farmer cleaning out a trough. people's laughter and chewing interrupted banter sounding like the wheezing squeals of pigs, and when they asked for more they looked like seals clapping their flippers begging for another sardine.
then everyone got drunk and they were fine.

At the child abuse center I had to look at photos of kids with bruises and injuries. That was pretty sad. Then I had to watch a nanny cam video of a babysitter shaking an infant, and watch the baby's head jerk back and forth like a rag doll. My boss used to tell me about her boyfriend troubles, the caseworkers blamed me for everything just because I was the new girl - they were often so moody and bitchy. The director of the center used to take the case workers out to lunch all the time, but she treated the filing people and secretaries like crap. And then one day I had to run over to the hospital to get some scrubs for a kid to wear home, because we had to take his clothes for evidence, and as I was waiting for the nurse a lullaby started playing on the speaker system to indicate that a baby had just been born. I just started crying right there like a wuss.

best: working at a music store (CDs, mostly) when i was in my early 20s. basically goofing off, hearing music before it was out and having fun wrestling matches and nick names and just generally happy to be at work.
worst: Assistant Manager at Bath and Bodyworks. i lasted 3 months and left one of my other favorite jobs for it just b/c i got offered more money. kicked myself after. i just could NOT stand being fake happy all day. i mean i'm a happy person but that was just over the top. As a manager, you would have atleast 2 hours on the sales floor and if you didn't make your preset goal, you had to call the district manager and tell her why you weren't good enough to sell for those 2 hours.
man that job was horrible.

oh that's just gross, but a good description of the nastiness. being veggie, i notice things like that a lot, especailly when people eat ribs. it just... disgusts me. i'm so glad my husband doesn't eat pork.

Best: my current gig and working the orchard with my old man in the old country...
