I find nothing sadder in the news. Its getting far too common in europe now, even in places where guns aren't relatively easy to get hold of :(

I don't know the answer to, I know its rare but you can't help but jump to crazy conclusions

i wouldn't be surprised if you saw a couple more school shootings in europe within the next few weeks.

malcolm gladwell described the phenomenon in the tipping point.

damn :(

It is hard to pinpoint the causes of these school shootings...it can be a myriad of things contributing to a kid reaching this kind of violent boiling point.

Is it a failure in mental health services?
A failure in parenting?
Overexposure to violent culture?
Bullying?
One thing is for sure, easy access to guns (n)

It seems like a shooting spree occurs every three months in the U.S.

It is disgusting that those who go on these killing sprees wish to die but can't do it alone.

I think it is so messed up why people do these things. In no way can I understand the thinking behind it. No matter how bad my rage against the world ever got, to kill completely innocent people just because you are fucked up yourself, is beyond any comprehension.

I think that more than anything, the school shootings happen more often because they happen more often...if that makes any sense.

there's precedent, so the really angry messed up kids see it as an option.

I don't know, I've talked about this before, but I grew up in Littleton, CO where Columbine is. I only lived there til I was 7, but even in elementary school there was a lot of harassment of people who were "different". I was bullied for being shy and living in an apartment, friends of mine were bullied for not having money. there was a nasty sort of evil in some of those kids for whatever reason. and it was tolerated by teachers, or perhaps ignored or even facilitated in some cases. I can see how the harassment would only get worse as those kids got older.

I think parenting has a lot to do with it. a child with a supportive home wouldn't ever feel isolated enough to go on a shooting rampage. I mean, unless they had a mental illness I guess.

Apparently the kid in this one was the son of a successful businessman. They also had 18 guns in the house.

I just can't get my head round it.

it's weird that he didn't even go to the school anymore, he'd graduated.

the part that's worst about these is that the kids who do it kill themselves or get killed, so nobody can ask them why they did it.

perhaps he was neglected by his wealthy businessman father?
