I bet vulvano would rather hang with the elite rather than hang with people living in their parent's basement :)

I don't know if I would call it sucking up, it makes sense that they would try to acclimate themselves to the social scene in DC.
also, I think they are trying to bring class back to the presidency, after Bush's tacky down home bullshit. yes, he liked being on the ranch and whatever, but he was born into the elite. no matter what kind of affected drawl he liked to trot out, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
I think it's important to embrace arts/culture. unfortunately (or fortunately) the massively rich pretty much run that shit. it would be embarrassing if they all of a sudden started having lavish expensive parties all the time. but you know what? Obama is the president and it's part of his job to be fancy in a way. Other leaders of other countries are super fancy, right? who says america has to be the backwoods of the world?
I think it's all about communicating with people on all levels. getting people on the same page and all that. ignoring the elite would never work because they control a lot of things. in my opinion, it's almost like that saying, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer".
all in all, I think it's a smart move. remember, the rich people create a lot of jobs for the common man. we can't all be plumbers, yo.

atleast obama doesnt sanction this...
Notre Dame professor Doug Cassel: If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?
One of George W. Bush's Justice Department lawyers John C. Yoo: No treaty...
Cassel: Also no law by Congress -- that is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo ...
Yoo: I think it depends on why the president thinks he needs to do that.

that is FUCKING DISGUSTING, especially coming from people who used to run this country and not some nazi fanatic (although the line is fine).

Conservative Cat Fight!!!
here is something rather brave and, yes, even poignant about the attempts by Sen. John McCain's daughter, 24-year-old Meghan McCain, to call out the middle-aged Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham for their snarky and -- to Ms. McCain, at least -- gratuitously nasty ways of doing business
-- including, in Ingraham's case, making fun of McCain's weight.
Looks like Laura and Ann can't handle being the alpha-ugly wenches in the Conservative cesspool!
actually Meghan seems like a nice and brave woman and doesn't deserve this....goes to show

not when they are getting to get taxed at the rates Obama is proposing...
what do you do for a living? are you pulling down a couple mil a year, are you going to have to compromise your lifestyle because of obama's proposed tax plans?
I work for small business owners, in an industry that provides high end services to (mostly) wealthy people. and our clients by and large are supporters of obama because they believe he's good for our country.
businesses in my industry are dropping like flies, and it's not because of extra taxes, it's because our economy is fucked and they can't cut it. I just got promoted and got a raise. why? because we're local and we do good work and we still pull in the rich folks because of it, so we're doing okay.
I'm actually thankful for the recession because it means that the bullshit is over, the cream is gonna rise to the top.
it's laughable that you believe that a rise in taxes for 2% of the population will affect jobs. cry me a fucking river.
fact of the matter is, a shit ton of assholes have been riding on a wave of fake income anyway. pumping out crap products to a nation of easily manipulated consumers.
grow a brain. seriously. stop feeling sorry for yourself.
