I'm in the midst of another De La Soul kick, something that has been occurring with increased regularity when I decide to get out Buhloone Mindstate and play "En Focus" on repeat till it decides to skip. De La's one of my top 5 favorite groups of all-time, but I have a hard time deciding who I think the better MC is.

So, I ask you, let's say each were going to release a solo album and you could only buy one, which one would you get? Just curious.

good question, tough call as well. A bit like the beasties, i enjoy hearing their voices and rhymes together.

not sure what the solo albums would sound like, i reckon Dave's would be a similar sounding album to De la stuff and Pos would have a lot of contrasting styles, silly rhymes and serious rhymes, so i will go for Pos in that i think it would be the more interesting listen both musically and lyrically.

On Buhloone Mindstate, Dave. I usually still refer to him as Trugoy, though, because I'm not a fan of this Dave business.

I've never liked Pos' voice much, but he's the better lyricist overall.

Pos was ill on De La Soul is Dead. I'm going with him. "Bitties in the BK Lounge" was funny as hell.

From Buhloone Mindstate on, I'd have to go with Dave. One the first two albums I thought he was fairly average, but once I heard his first verse on the track "Stakes Is High" (bought that before Mindstate) that starts "I'm sick of bitches shaking, I'm sick of talking about blunts, sick of Versace glasses" I kinda started to like him more.

I don't know, sometimes Pos sounds more like he's just speaking then performing, which may make him the better lyricist, but not the better MC.

Also, I had a hell of a time trying to decide what to call Dave because I couldn't in all good faith put Trugoy because for some reason it bugs me that it's "yogurt" spelled backwards.

I voted for Pos because I love listening to his verses- but that dave verse from stakes is among the greatest moments in the history of recorded music. ever. weird that it was such an easy choice for me- i think maybe I just like listening to Pos a little more- its solely a personal taste thing not about quality as thats too close to call, for me.

Great question by the way. I just brought a tshirt with the de la logo circa 3feet (with the daisy in the middle). Very proud of that.

I like listening to both of them, but Pos for me. No real reason, except maybe his more abstract approach to flowing (although Dave gets abstract too).

They're playing in Perth on the 26th; the 20 years high and rising show or some shit, with a 13 piece band. I'd go if I could be assured it's not just 3 feet high played live in its entirety (wouldn't be that into it, tbh), and that the venue won't be packed with douchecocks me and superzenki would falme.
