I was just ripping some songs from an old CD onto my itunes when I heard a bang as loud as a gunshot and my computer rattled from side to side.

Shit - the CD just fucking EXPLODED! The drive must be fucked, cos there's hundreds of shards of CD in there

Nothing rare or anything. Just an old Feeder CD from about 10 years ago. Nothing I can't buy again for a few quid. I'd be fucking pissed off if it was anything rare! It's the drive that's going to cost me :(

It had a tiny crack in the middle which must've been what caused it :S

Been looking this up further.

Apparently it is a fault which happens more often than you'd think. In some cases, people who've have CD drives at eye level have been known to have been left with shards of CD sticking out of their eye :S

I should probably switch the machine off now, as the CD drive keeps opening and closing by itself :S

I had no idea that CD's spun that fast.. Audio CD's in a regular audio CD player turn pretty damn slow, Only computer CD-Rom drives turn that fast.
