i've never seen a mad max movie and i kind of want to, and mad maxes 2 and 3 are available on netflix's instant watching thing, but the first movie isn't. do i need to see the first one to make sense of the second one, or am i giving a movie called "mad max: road warrior" too much credit and i'll probably be able to figure it out just fine on my own?

Not at all.

In fact, it was released as The Road Warrior in the States just so audiences wouldn't be confused about this Mad Max 2 thing
showing up they'd never heard of. they figured it'd be more off-putting than anything.

It's fine on its own.

in fact, im fairly certain they even do a "last time on mad max" type recap at the start.

Thunderdome I think. They were actually playing both of those at a theater this weekend. Didn't have time to go see them..which may actually be a good thing.

The first one is the best one. Mad Max 2 is more sadistic, I think. Mad Max is revered in Australia and consider it a classic. Its a great film in that people identified with it internationally while being very, very Australian, but not overtly so. Most Aussie films crank up the Aussieness so it becomes parody. But I guess you could say that about most domestic film/TV industries.

So, I'd see Mad Max before Mad Max 2.

Thunderdome is not relevant.

Freebaser: Mel is in all of them. Miller is trying to get another Mad Max film up (a cartoon, I think), but Mel doesn't want a bar of it.

We all should be watching these movies again really. We need to be familiar with how the world is gonna be after 2012. For those that survive anyway, but you can never be too prepared!

I might get them. They're 12 quid in Blockbuster for all 3 packaged together.Wacky Races is in there for 12 quid too I remember seeing..

I could download them like some people do but I can't be bothered.

I can't wait for a mad max world too. It's be good to have a helicopter bike thing like the birdman or whatever in Mad Max 2

Its easier to go to Blockbuster than download? Are you on dial-up?

If I tried, I'm sure I could get all three movies in less than 10 mins. It'd take me longer than that to get out the house and on my bike to even start going somewhere to get them.

I don't like downloading movies.I'm old fashioned plus if I physically make an effort to go to Blockbuster I might meet the love of my life there and we compliment each other on our excellent DVD choices then exchange numbers and never call each other(y)

You really want your love of your life seeing you buy Mad Max?

I suppose it is true, I should get out more and interact with the world. Instead I call old girl friends who are engaged and do things I ain't proud of.

I bet hanging about in book stores is a good way. Make sure I don't buy books on tape like I normally do tho, the paper kind this time... tee hee.

The first Mad Max is great, but only with it's original soundtrack. I hate the US voice dubbed version. Mad Max 2 is real good aswell, 3 is meh.

Tricked out muscle cars that crash and burn, sadistic biker gangs pillaging the entire landscape, people getting run over,...shit's like a graphic novel of man-dom, and that's just the first flick.

Mad Max 2 is the best, but 1 is also worth checking out.

I can take or leave Thunderdome, although I havn't seen it in years.

I might stroll up to Tower Records later and get it. And the Shawshank Redemption, i woke up this morning thinking bout the scene where Andy tells your man how to save money on his taxes and i was like "i wanna see the Shawshank Redemption again"

Are we that fucking hard to understand?

roosta

they're making a mad max 4.

currently its gonna be an animation (manga) with no gibson.

i think they should go the whole rambo/die hard 4 route and give it a shot. even tho those films were shit, i think there's at least one old action franchise that could give us a memorable sequel.

There is indeed a dubbed into US accent version, I refuse to watch it if it comes on TV dubbed. But mostly in the UK we get the real Aussie one, I guess some Americans are too stupid to understand. That or they are probably wondering why they all have English accents.

Number one is great. Turns into a nice little revenge flick.

The other two are just tagged on because of it's success. They remind me of the Rambo films. First blood was awesome but you've got to admit that the rest of them were just vehicles for Stallone to just shoot/stab people.

Its been a while since I've watched them - like over 10 years. And as I said before I need to prepare for 2012 - it'll be a wasteland man, I'm gonna survive it, I'm already stock piling hair dye.

May I suggest that you should take advantage of the wonderful heritage of Sheffield and get down to the steelworks and see if someone will fashion you a lethal double edged boomerang.

You know most sheffield steel is made in china now - they renamed a town in china to sheffield so they can make sheffield steel, seriously!

And the steelworks in sheffield, uk is now a shopping mall.

When I was a kid, I saw "The Road Warrior" first and then the first one a little later. I didn't even realize that they were part of the same series. But then, I was a child, so I wasn't exactly desperately seeking logic or anything. All I can tell you is that Beyond Thunderdome is as essential as Waterworld. Meaning, it isn't.

i tried watching beyond thunderdome but it was so bad i couldn't finish it. i got to the part with those horrible ewok tribal people, and i got through about 15 minutes of it and said "this is stupid, i'm skipping ahead" so i skipped ahead about 20 minutes and they were still there so i just turned it off

Yup.

The first two are kind of like the first two Terminator movies. The first in each series is a pretty okay idea,
but not really a very good movie; then the second one of each just nails it.

Adam

I'm watching number 2 now.

I have man-flu so in the last two days I've watched both series of The Big Bang Theory - its ok, easy to watch. Some docu's - one was on Judas, did you know its illegal to call your kid that in Germany.

So yeah. Mad Max 2, only 5 mins in but its the one I remember as my favourite
