I love the implicitness of this line in the report:

Ms Smith was not home when the films were viewed, sources told the BBC. She lives with her husband, Richard Timney.

Virgin Media TV on Demand is basically cable which allows you to watch anything that had been braodcast in the last 7 days plus pay per view stuff. It is usually sold as a bundle with internet and phoine services.

I guess the husband bought some porn on demand and it came through in the monthly bill from the internet provider. She got her work (she is a key member of the government) to pay for it - probably saying that her internet connection is a key work/living expense.

This is controversial as there have been a lot of scandels in the UK lately relating to members of parliament making outragous claims on their expenses. As these are paid from taxes, the masses are getting pretty pissed off about it. Jacqui Smith is a major politician - approxmiately the 5th most senior member of the British government.

I'm a little more pissed off about my money being spent to invade Iraq actually, and I'm pretty sure that cost more than a tenner. wooOOOOOoooo, some politician's husband watched two naughty movies on my dime. I can't really get that excited about this.

There is a way that you can set up your taxes so that your money is not used for the military/defense budget. I read about this a while ago and am fairly certain that it was brought it so that conciencious objectors didn't have to indirectly financially support wars through income tax etc. No idea if it horrendously complex to do but thought it was quite interesting none the less.
