Lest we forget. Here's Walter Cronkite with his report on that very day.

that took place relatively close to me, actually. (well, like 3-4 hours drive)

my uncle told me he was up there doing construction on the thing, and then when it all went down everyone started to freak out and thought they might have to evacuate, even as far over as we were.

needless to say, nuclear power is having a comeback party!

It is a wonderful example of how the wrong things can be contained correctly when designed correctly .

Perfect example of why with improved design we can be piggy backing our way to green power via nuclear.

I guess it's about halfway between us in Philly and Pittsburgh, so about 2-3 hours away from me. I've driven by there before.

I actually remember when this happened.

What's up with the B&W footage? It makes it look like it happened in the 50's or something. There was color TV in 1979.

I remember mom and dad loading up the car with all our belongings and taking us far north, over the border and beyond. At the time we were living smack dab in the middle between three mile island and anchorage.

I remember at one point we had to use sled dogs. This became tedious and quite exhausting having 5 malamute huskies to feed and care for in sub zero temperatures. One day I became dehydrated and disoriented as we stopped to make camp.... I wandered away from the rest of the family in the bitter cold and thought for sure I was going to die. Just then, duchess the strongest of the huskies appeared from over a small snow bank and barking at me to follow her, what a hot dog I thought to myself. I did until I began to feel weak, dizzy and completely overwhelmed from the freezing arctic. I vaguely remember pulling out my buck knife before the blackout

I came too in that snow banked with blood on my hands and dog hair all around my face. When I got back to camp the family had been looking for me and duchess. I said I don't know what happened to duchess, they all were kind of grossed out that I was such a mess and really not too hungry. I'll never be too sure what happened those weeks that followed three mile island, but one thing is for sure, I have never been a big fan of nuclear power.

The Three Mile Island skit was my dad's favorite SNL skit. I don't know if I ever heard my dad laugh harder. I think it was the Garrett Morris parts that he liked the best. He played the cleaning lady. That's what I remember.
