View Full Version : If Prince started making music that sounded like his early 80s stuff

It might sound sorta like this (http://www.imeem.com/groups/v89boZ9o/video/bdRqsGsQ/prince-feat-q-tip-chocolate-box-music-video/). Minus the Q-Tip feature, maybe. But I could swear those are the When Doves Cry drums I'm hearing in there.

i do hear that signature old school prince drum machine in the song during a couple parts. but it still kinda sucks.

The autotune is hardly excessive, but yes, there's a bit of that. Prince has always experimented with all kinds of vocal effects, anyway.

I originally wrote the song off as a failure, but it's grown on me quite a bit. I'm not suggesting that he could be on the brink of a full-fledged comeback or anything, but he's supposedly doing more guitar-driven, electro-pop stuff lately.

Thank Goodness.
and here I thought we may have heard the end of crappy music like that when the 80's ended.

As good as Prince is live, I am surprised by how unoriginal this latest offering is. It's one thing to try and search your musical past for inspiration and direction and then it's a whole other thing to try and duplicate it. Sort of goes beyond capturing the old sound.

Yet watching his stage prowess and undeniable talent on Leno last week I realize how awesome that crazy cat is live... I will see him if he comes up here to Seattle again, making it the 4th time I've seen him live and also one of the very best shows I've ever been to, in the top 3.

yup the linn drum is back in effect on mpls anyways. This album isn't for me though at all. Prince trying to sound current just doesn't work for me (see also his early 90's new jack *shudders* work)

Prince was just better when he wasn't trying conform to the sounds of the day he was just being him. Now though, lyrically he's too safe. There's no Tamborine curveballs. But all that said he'll still be one of the all time greats imho and sadly there'll probably never be another like him

Lotus Flower i do enjoy, most of it anyways
