View Full Version : Saving money: little kid style

Without getting into too many personal details ('cause nobody really gives a shit anyway), I'm in a bit of a financial squeeze without much of a job... like the rest of the world.

Yet, I'm still trying to save some cash. Thing is, I can't stack it away in my bank account(s) 'cause then I know I'll end up using it for other shit. I'm doing it little kid style with an envelope and a secret hiding spot (my fire-proof lockbox in my closet).

Counting my cash the other day, which isn't much, I was smacked with a feeling of nostalgia when I was a kid saving up for my Sega Genesis. I don't even know what I'm saving up for. I'm just saving to try and have something that doesn't feel like it's getting spent on bills and shit.

Anyway, am I the only one that still does it this way? Probably... as it doesn't seem all that smart, honestly. But, hey, it's just a small amount of cash right now anyway - I'm only saving $10 a week. Still - at the end of the year that could be $520. Which, really, isn't all that much either. Damn.

I'm doing that too! The money goes in a little box I built out of cardboard and lots of duct tape.

I got an extra €10 to put in yesterday :)

for a while i was putting money away in a separate savings account that i could only withdraw from by physically going to the bank and getting them to print me out a check. i forced myself to take a check over there to deposit every month and it was nice since i knew that account kept going up while i maintained a steady balance in my main account.

i also roll my change periodically, which is sort of the same. the rolls pile up for a while until i deem it enough money to deposit, which is usually that secondary savings. so it really never gets spent unless its an emergency

HA! Too bad karma will kill you before you get to spend it.

I wouldn't have enough boxes to put all my money in if it was cash. Unless it was just 1 big box, but then that would be stupid. I should start giving my money away. PM me for money.

I used to do that too some years ago, but I got lazy. Still have that (now empty) account though.

I saved about £4k once in less than 18 months when I worked in mortgages. Then I spent it in 18 months after I freaked out and left that job. Good times.

I don't have that amount of money any more. I also don't have a job but I have a couple of empty whisky bottles with change in
