No.
Just watch. You're going to change your mind.

I agree with Dandy. I Love You, Man was way funnier than Role Models.
They both were kind of predictable as well, but I thought Role Models was way more guilty in that department too.

I thought Role Models was hilarious when I was watching it but I think it's because I really wanted to like it, and expected to like it. Then over the weekend I watched Dude, Where's My Car? and I thought that Role Models wasn't that great, afterall, not Sean William Scott's finest. It wasn't dumb enough to be a good dumb comedy and it wasn't heartfelt enough to have the sweet dumb comedy effect that things like The 40 Year Old Virgin had. And why wasn't it advertised as a David Wain production more? It was almost pushed like it was a Judd Apatow thing.

Sean William Scott's finest role was probably in Old School.
Speaking of dumb comedies, I was watching Hamlet 2 the other night, and it wasn't quite as funny as I thought it was going to be. Probably because I had really high expectations. I'm no longer on speaking terms with the person who recommended it to me.

Well that's unfortunate for the person who recommended it. I thought it was very funny, like when he gets mad at his cat, or when he rollerskates to the liquor store.

I had warned the person beforehand, not to recommend any turds. And now that person is dead to me.

Joe Lo's character in I Love You, Man was so unfunny I actually frowned.
I liked I Love You, Man because it covered new territory and I'm enamored with Jason Segel, but overall Role Models was more consistently funny.
Both were formulaic, but what isn't? The Butterfly and the Diving Bell or some shit *zzzzzzzzzzzzz*
nuzz, they probably didn't try to sell it as a Wain/the State vehicle because The Ten was a huge fat terrible failure. and pretty awful. usually you can't go wrong advertising something as a raunchy broad comedy. average everyday knuckleheads will want to see boobies and kids swearing, and comedy nerds will eventually find out on their own who's behind it and see it because of Wain. or at least that's what I did.
I've used more italics in this thread than any other.

It's up to you, but sometimes you should keep in mind that the enjoyment of a movie can be affected by one's surroundings and their movie-watching companions. You probably know all that anyway. Maybe you two can agree to disagree. I'm sure there are things you like that this person doesn't.

That's the way to be mature about things.
You know what wasn't funny in Role Models? When he had unprotected sex with that girl who said "Im very pro-choice!" Gross! How is unprotected sex even a funny joke? It's not just plain old "oh no they din't!" shocking, it's, as I previously said, Gross!

I don't remember that part, did you watch the unrated version? I watched the regular version, I don't like unrated versions of things, it's usually not as funny. like the unrated version of Anchorman...bleh, they take out "I ate a big red candle" and put in something dirty. but "I ate a big red candle" was way funnier.

Jane Lynch's character in Role Models bumped it ahead of I Love You, Man in my books

David Wain isn't exactly a big seller when it comes to films "Hey you know that guy from the one TV show that ran one season that nobody liked? And who was on that other cult TV show a while ago that not many people know about? Oh and directed two movies that got almost no recognition? Well he directed another movie! "
Jane Curtain in I Love You Man...it was good to see her.
And Jon Favreau and Jamie Pressley knocked it out of the park.
I agree, it is pretty funny.

seriously.
I had zero expectations and I found it poorly edited (the jokes may have been funny but someone fucked the timing up in editing) and well, it was really boring.
I wanted to turn it off but my boyfriend said "well, we made in 3/4 in to it, might as well finish it." We were both very disappointed we wasted our time on it.
