longtime Beastie Boys percussionists Eric Bobo and Alfredo Ortiz will appear together in an episode of CSI tonight on CBS. they got the whole cast and crew, including Laurence Fishburne, grooving to their beats...
from 'Fredo's bulletin:
Hey folks,
I wanted to announce that Eric Bobo and I will be having our acting debut on the hit show CSI. We were asked to play the parts of Santeros performing Live rhythms traditionally played for a Santeria Ritual. For the first time in CSI history, they will be using the Live performance and recordings that Bobo and I performed along with the direction of famous director William Friedkin (The Exorcist, French Connection).
Our scene opens with the CSI detectives receiving a lead, walking them straight into a Santeria Ceremony. In this specific scene Bobo and I are providing Live rhythms for the Ceremony taking place. It was quite an experience, with Eric on Bongo and me on Conga. Traditionally the "bata" drums are to be used but as they say in the business , "It's good enough for television".
Eric and I made not only the extras but the whole cast and crew move to our beats. Pretty friggin awesome. To top it off William Friedkin was a HUGE Willie Bobo fan, so we got lots of love on the set.
After 8 hours of shooting the scene William decided he wanted to get some extra beats to spread throughout the episode, so William gathered a small crew and we proceeded to the set of the CSI forensics lab. It was a trip to see the lab. It looked very real. Even Lawrence Fishburn was real. He said what's up by the way. William decided he wanted to conduct and create mood. He did not say a word, he just pointed at me and I had to start playing what was at the top of my head. There was no room for discussion, just rhythm. What a night to remember.
I forgot to mention that "Popeye" from the movie "Blood In Blood Out" is in the episode as well. Being a big fan of the movie I had to mention to him what a fan I was of him. He laughed but i got the feeling he was a little annoyed as he said " Geez! why doesn't anyone ever talk about my Hamlet!". At that point it was dinner time. Mmmm craft services.
Can't wait to check it out!!
