when i was younger i'd rarely go on lifts, being from a small coastal provincial town, and anytime I did go on them i'd get the whole "stomach-moving-at-a-different-speed-to-body sensation" which for a young lad from the sticks was thrilling.

Now i get on a lift everyday I don't feel that anymore, and the thrill is gone. Although sometimes when it stops suddenly and there's a pause before the doors open you get a wee buzz, like you might be trapped.
